If you were to choose an undeveloped region in Somalia one without any existing towns for establishing a new settlement, where would you place it, given the following criteria?
1) The location must be able to support a population of 50,000 to 200,000 residents.
2) It should be a green area or have access to reliable water.
3) It needs to be a place that would attract tourists.
Please base your recommendation on observations made using Google Earth.

Better to develop an existing town with potential rather than wasting resources starting a new settlement, no?

I would develop eyl. This town has been left to rot and die even though the potential is massive. The agricultural potential in the lower side of daawad and the fishery potential in badey, not to mention that is is water rich. Unbelievable how there is no road connecting to Garowe

I would choose to build a town in Midhisho, located in the northern Somali peninsula. This area is surrounded by mountains, and on Google Earth, it is clear that Midhisho sits in a concave valley enclosed on all sides by high terrain. This natural formation is ideal because rainfall collects in the valley’s basin, providing a reliable water source to support agriculture, daily life, and long-term population growth. The valley’s scenic geography also makes it appealing to tourists, offering opportunities for hiking, photography, and outdoor recreation. I estimate that Midhisho could sustain a population of over 100,000 people due to its available land and resources. Nearby, Erigavo enhances the region’s appeal with its cultural sites and stunning highlands. Developing Midhisho would create a new urban hub that leverages natural beauty, water availability, and protection from harsh winds, making it both livable and attractive to visitors.

Sxb Eyl is my favorite city I'd like to visit in Somalia. It has soo much potential especial for tourist and diaspora relocation
