To be fair our ancestors had zero intrest in the islands around Somalia. We are camel herders who have a itch for large Territories. Socotra doesn't offer that. So they opted for leaving it be. We could have fought the Yemenis for it but alas there was no need to do so. If socotra was like New Zealand or sum. They would have colonized it ages ago.
