I think there are two reasons as to why this is the case. The first being that Black Lives Matter and Palestine are much more visible issues than Somalia. There's more coverage and information on them, making it easier for one to sympathize with those causes. The second, and possibly more bigger one, is a sense of defeatism. Think about it, Somalia and Somalis, in the varied and few instances that they are discussed, are often a laughingstock for a multitude of reasons, be it that we're African, Muslims, immigrants, and/or simply Somali. To the world we're just another dysfunctional shithole with no solution in sight to our problems, especially due to the fact that many of our problems are exacerbated by Somalis themselves. Western Somalis most likely have a pessimistic view of Somalia, thinking "What's the point?" and the like.

The way I see it it's possible to sympathize and concern yourself with multiple causes and movement, that goes without saying. I sympathize with the aforementioned movements and the issue of Somalia, but if you are Somali then Somalia should hold precedence above the others.

Somalis are mostly cawaan and will give no thought to what they name their kids. they'll even use names they see from movies.

That's the correct approach. And yeah, that all sounds about right. Diaspora Somalis have given up on their own so they prioritize other causes. And that's really the only thing i take issue with. How are you going to prioritize people who are barely aware of your existence? It just comes of as pathetic, you know?

Somalis have only one thing they truly possess, and that's kids. It's quite natural to name your belongings after things/people you value. Cadaans name their dogs after their favourite movie character, or streetnames after foreign cities, their boats after favourite singer etc etc. Somalis don't have yachts, streets or pets, just kids. Erdogan is already the most popular name for newborn kids in parts of Somalia, I have seen twins named Sudais and Shuraim (which is actually a qabiil name and and not their actual first name).
