I remember that random Somali witch doctor appearing out of nowhere speaking Somali:

They really took the cosmopolitan urbanism to the next level with that one.

Yeah. I mean, Somaloids of some sort were trading with the Greeks and Romans back then and were at least going across to Yemen with rafts as far back as the 1st century and while I've lost the quote I do recall some source saying Cosmas Indicopleustes claimed that the men of "Barbaria" (Bab al-Mandeb to Cape Guardafui) were active Seafarers, supposedly more so than Arabs, in his day (6th century) but I somehow sincerely doubt any of our folks, even the Beja, were to be found in Rome. But who knows... was still a really weird stretch to see that in the show, though.

I wasn't memeing. I found it surprising the first time I saw it. Very random from a non-suspecting POV.

In reality, it is very well possible. Both Beja and Somalis might have ended up on the shores of ancient Rome.

I read that Nubians were invited to some 30th anniversary of some emperor's reign and stayed there for a bit on a formal invitation.
