By extenstion, we're technically Arab. Also, many of our founding clan fathers were Arab and by the traditional Somali system everything is patriarchal so we're all Arab. Also, I'm a huge fan of Pan-Islamism and many Arab countries are Muslim. I love African Muslim countries, too, so I am proud because of them to be African. In the end, tbh, I don't care too much about labels except the one of Islam.

And many people in my family claim Arab and speak Arabic fluently, so it's something I grew up with personally.

No, I think Somalia (and the Horn in general, tbh) has had a lot of influence genetically and culturally from the Arab world. I think whatever our originial language was (who cares, though, because we never had an "orginial" language because language evolves like crazy) it took a lot of loan words from Arabic.

Af-Somali is similar to languages like Afar,Saho,Rendile and other groups who were not contacted by Arabs. Also, Somalis for the most part did not read and write, only Wadaads and Suldaans wrote and Somalis passed their history orally rather than writing it down like the Arabs.

This, among many other things disprove the Arab origin myth
