Locals have been doing gold mining in Awdal for many years now and has become a lucrative enterprise.

yeah shabaab and isis ruined it for a while, its the main reason puntland is lacking behind compared to slKnowing Somalis it will look like the Rhineland in two years. My family was about to exploit one of the mines in Bari but then ISIS occupied that area, we still have the machines idling in a port’s warehouse somewhere.
Someone should have told my dad. Back when I was still a pre-teen he dumped like $2 Million USD looking for gold out in the general Bari-Sanaag mountains area. Nothing came of it and since then my fam and I have always looked side-eyed at anyone even remotely talking about gold-mining. When I was in Bari on a roadtrip during the summer of '23 I remember the adeer driving the bus rambling about the mountains being rich in gold and I just nodded along sarcastically.
Hope I'm just bitter and wrong. Kekekeke.
Stupid reply.Somalia sitting on all of these resources, but we rather funnel aid into Turkish accounts.
If you're referring to the hydrocarbon deal with Turkey, it was either going to be the Turks, Americans, British, Russians, or China. Americans would never allow us to do such a major oil and gas deal with Russia or China so let's take them out of the picture so you have Turks, Americans, or British. Who would you have gone with that we at least have something in common and a history with? When you are unable to extract your hydrocarbon wealth, you'll have to pay someone to do it for you and no one will do it for free. That's what's happening. And the risk of being taken advantage of will always be there if you are in a vulnerable position in terms of stability to extract the oil and gas and in terms of economic health.Somalia sitting on all of these resources, but we rather funnel aid into Turkish accounts.
You guys are really dumb the deal with turkey was the best deal in African hydrocarbon history, if this deal was with any American company it would've been 50-50If you're referring to the hydrocarbon deal with Turkey, it was either going to be the Turks, Americans, British, Russians, or China.
