Its cool to see people are using modern equipment now, back then it was just your two hands

SL opened the biggest Gold mining plant in the horn this August in Sanaag, run by a local company, same place where that dude above found the gold nugget, Cirshida

I guess it make sense that they must have struck it big because they launched gold trading platform:

I suspect a similar dynamic exists with gold. Somali trading companies headquartered abroad often purchase gold and then resell it to Somali businesses or retailers, who in turn sell to wealthy customers or distribute it globally. In effect, Somalis act as their own middlemen in their own trade.
For example, this one company has offices in both the UAE and Somaliland located in Hargeisa’s Burj Omar Business District and the Gold Souq, where Somali shops operate. According to their website, they manage billions in assets owned by 50,000 Somali investors, who receive monthly returns. They fund gold mining and processing operations in Somaliland and maintain a transparent supply chain that complies with Islamic finance rules and certifications:

Someone should have told my dad. Back when I was still a pre-teen he dumped like $2 Million USD looking for gold out in the general Bari-Sanaag mountains area. Nothing came of it and since then my fam and I have always looked side-eyed at anyone even remotely talking about gold-mining. When I was in Bari on a roadtrip during the summer of '23 I remember the adeer driving the bus rambling about the mountains being rich in gold and I just nodded along sarcastically.

Hope I'm just bitter and wrong. Kekekeke.

This is why they killed that warsangeli oday. Literally a couple weeks before they airstriked him he was like "your not gonna exploit sanaag".
Then they cooked up some explanation about him being a "terrorist" and then passe that info to America.

No idea, wallahi. He never liked going into details. Just told me the amount he blew for the most part. But it sounded like he gave the investment to some idiotic types who didn't know what they were doing, to be fair. Was a low point in the oday's life. He made a lot of unsound decisions back then and his health was failing. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of gold out there. Has to be reason why people have been rambling about gold deposits in the area since I was like 5. No one talks about this if you go to the northwest, for example.

It only became well known recently in the 2010s, in 2019 floods revealed lots of gold and there was even clashes in cerigabo cause some clans were claiming the place were the gold came from was theirs

It became official in 2023 a company deni hired for exploration said theres over 30 billion $ worth of gold

Why does UAE even need all this gold, i hope theyre buying at good price and not robbing them

They sell inside Somaliland as well that's where their headquarters is but the UAE don't directly buy it from Somalis. It's Somalis who set up their own international office in UAE in order to sell it directly to international costumers most of whom are wealthy people and export from there to other buyers abroad themselves.

All the profit comes back to Somaliland. They practice what is called "vertical integration", so they cut off foreign middle men that would have otherwise take a cut off their profit. Instead they control every stage of the supply chain rather than relying on a third party.
