Well, the story keeps ever-evolving, and (Horner) East Africans are always mentioned as some form of 'diversity' or 'exceptionalism' to the rule for SSAs from Africa, be it in terms of hair texture, features, and or skin tone. They are conveniently madow when beauty is discussed but not when they do something unfavorable (then they are Somali and not 'real' Black). There is confusion about them and this predates their overexposure on the internet. Even before Twitter, you had strange search queries on Somalis online.

Somalis are getting the mixed treatment without even being mixed. The lighter you are as a Somali or, the more loose textured your hair, the less likely people will be satisfied with you just being African or Somali, for that matter. Even when Somalis have a particular look that makes them recognizable to some extent.

Let's be honest, most "SSAs" have very little eurasian ancestry or at least a very significant amount to make a difference. That's why we stand out, yes we aren't mixed in a recent sense but we are in terms of very old ancestry. Eurasian and SSA is very very divergent, even on a genetic graph most africans cluster on one side while we cluster away from others. We also consolidated after generations and generations to look a certain way basically

I think it's the paradox of being black-adjacent, because north africans are not seen as black or anything like that mainly because most of their ancestry is basically just eurasian while ours is in the middle. Somalis are Somalis, i wish people left it as that
