Thoughts on Modest Clothing Industry?

According to the “State of the Global Islamic Economy Report” produced by Reuters in collaboration with DinarStandard, Muslim consumers spent an estimated $243 billion on clothing in 2015. Modest fashion purchases by Muslim women were estimated at $44 billion that year, which was approximately 18% of the total. Muslim consumer spending on clothing is expected to reach $368 billion by 2021, which would be a 51% increase from 2015.

And interesting niche I noticed in this sector is the amount of non-Muslim women wearing modest clothing and including some kid of scarf, turban or hijab into thier daily attire.

Highway robbery.

The prices don't reflect the process and now we're getting the high end designer modesty clothes. If they think I'm spending $100+ on a single abaya they're mad.

I saw a hijab that was $20 (and it was plain, just a long strip of fabric ) simply because of the brand name sewn at the end.:drakekidding:

That's interesting.

Do you know what goes on to in the background to get your attention and click? Someone worked thier ass off and your going to abandon the cart like that. LoL

So how much would you pay for an Abaya with other product upsold to you? But don't you want to be part of community? Aren't the Hijab stores in your city well kinda gross looking? Unless you're a habar, the younger Muslims will be skipping retail and going direct online.

I like what this Osob girl did it right buy building a solid base and then opening a brand herself after getting harassed to market other people's products through influencer marketing.

I'm not white so I don't get ripped off buying stuff I will not spend more than £6 on a hijab and £20 for a abaya.

Somali aunts sell hijabs and abayas for cheap, why would they buy it from people who are going to sell it for double the price?

Why is the onus on me to help the community? It should be on the business to be more affordable, which helps the community more. I'm mostly talking about the Arab stores except east essence when it has sales. There are no Muslim clothing stores here anyways so the only option is online.

Nah, I'm team hassle relatives who go to Somali to bring some abayas back for way cheaper.

These are the new styles. Aunts sell what aunts wear.

The sub niche I'm talking about is the non-Muslim women joining in on the craze and Somali ecommerce females missing out on this opportunity.

What about something to match your Abaya? Clothing in different Pantones and such. Don't you wanna follow an IG filled with similar people with similar interests? You can follow them and maybe create a share interest friendship online.

:what1: Everyday abayas are plain. That girl you posted a pic of is also doing a plain style but changing up the colours.

Also I've never seen a non Muslim woman using the hijab or turban. Is it really a thing?

Somali people look at price first and style second. They aren't going to buy hijabs and abayas for double the price from gaalos. Also, these styles aren't "new".

They will buy from Somali women who are big on Social Media and rather give their hard-earned money to a Somali who knows what's trending and what's the "must-have" items.

Gaalos won't win in this industry.

Dang, if you're so interested in this why don't YOU open up an online shop?

What do you think of Hermes Hijabi/Scarfs? Do you get upset @ those girls who wear 500$ Hijabs?

Get upset? I wouldn't even notice one. It's a piece of fabric that's less than £10. Stupid people spend hundreds of dollars on designer stuff that only costs £10 to make.

For the everyday girl who's wearing an abaya, she's:

-going to the store real quick/running errands
- at the mosque
- sometimes going to class

None of these scenarios would produce a consumer for a high end product. People don't wear abayas at weddings and Eid is only twice a year so the high price name brand thing only works for the rich girls in Saudi. The $20 everyday basic abaya suffices for everyone else.

Also a name brand abaya would be wierd. Praying to Allah with someone's logo or name on your clothing :chrisfreshhah:

The market has become way too oversaturated. All over social media, it appears anyone with even a remote following is latching onto this market.

Modest fashion starter kit: 5K followers, MUA, WOC models to display your designs/ simple hijab.

And flex for the gram, what else are you gonna do all day at home :siilaanyolaugh:

Develop a nice lifestyle brand, plug it to some Saudi Hijabis (or who ever the top dogs are) and stick it on a 50p Abaya from dubai = $$$
Jazakallah Larry, this might be my come up
