You can avoid eating out by bringing your own lunch to work. preparing meals at home is always gonna be the cheaper and healthier option vs eating out even when it comes to cheap fast food, homemade food is gonna be the cheapest. You just gotta have hooyo, wifey or yourself prepare the food ahead of time and pack them in food containers. I rarely eat out even when I was a bodybuilder eating 5 times a day. There's plenty. It's honestly hard to eat healthy in the modern world. As in truly healthy like low-carb, whole foods. I remember when I used to work this job right in Downtown Dubai by Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. You had to be rich to eat healthy. Everything affordable was fast food like Taza, McD's, Wendy's and such. And prepping good, filling meals every morning is pretty exhausting stuff when you work from like 9 to 6 and get home by 8 PM due to traffic.
Not to mention that the standard dietary guidelines are nonsense and based on shoddy research. Telling people to eat lots of whole grains and all this. The hyperinsulinism catches up with folks and even naturally lean folks in their youth either become TOFI or genuinely overweight as they age and with those kinds of work schedules I can understand why some folks don't have time to hit a gym either. Not that working out makes a huge difference body fat wise if you're eating cheese and jam sandwiches for breakfast, lunching at Hardee's and having whatever other crap for dinner.
It took me years and sifting through so much bullshit like bodybuilding calories in calories out and plant based nonsense on nutrition to finally understand how to effortlessly eat right. And I think you're underestimating how addictive sugar and processed foods generally are and that some of these folks mentally function like hard drug addicts and hate being fat and eating the way they do; they just can't stop and it's an emotional outlet for them. And these food companies know this and pick the perfect proportions of sugar, fat and whatever else to keep their customers enthralled like hamsters.
