Most of them live in East Hararghe (Oromia), Jigjiga (Galbeed), The not walled off part of the Harari Region (Harar), Fik (Galbeed), and a small amount of them live in Jabuuti and SL.

Insane that man is spreading anti-OG and anti-Darood fkd for 0 reason like tf did I do to you 😂 They have bigger Arsi-shaped issues to attend to but I get it r/Oromia can’t really do Oromo fkd there.
Wait I forgot to say "East and West Hararghe (Oromia)" in the 'most of them' section and "Diridhaba (Diridhaba)" in the 'a small amount of them' mb yall!

Also @Barkhadle1520 the specific region of Somaliland they live in is Maroodi Jeex.... they probably are the people you are talking about lmfao.

then an Oromo accuses him of faking his identity for political clout View attachment 375830
Our Hararghe fella then straight up says he is Somali by blood, Somali by language, and that his people marry other Somalis a lot😭Total rejection of Oromo ethnic identity here (he even says Oromo identity is forced onto them)View attachment 375831
Then a Oromo says he should be deported to Galbeed lol.

LMFAOO they assimilate everyone omg

One thing I don’t understand is why Oromos spend their time copying Somalis/Amhara/tigray people. Like you’d think they would have their own distinct culture considering their numbers. Aren’t they the biggest group in Ethiopia yet they spend their time copying smaller tribes.

iley

LOCKED IN

They were once a small group, when a tiny group assimilates a lather group into itself they tend to keep their original traits.

A Syrian is a Arab but he is very different in comparison to a Arab from the Hijaz.

Their whole existence is based on assimilation of other groups thats what they do, before expanding into the horn they were naked bushites in kenya wearing animal skin

If only Imam Ahmed (AUN) didn’t put a heavy strain on the legendary Maya poison archers during the Futuh wars, exhausting them of their finances and manpower. They were the tribe that constantly kept the Oromos in check- when they were defeated the Oromos had a free hand to expand- the rest is history!

We actually know quite alot about the Maya, their kingdom, their customs, their twist in fate after Ethiopian expansion, and their ultimate demise at Oromo hands.

Now as for the Futuh war, they are mentioned by name (and by province- Wej) numerous times. They fought for the Ethiopian emperor as polytheists but were resolutely defeated by Imam Ahmed’s forced and then immediately defected from Ethiopia and converged to Islam.

Now as for their role in the early Oromo migrations, they were the gatekeeper of the Oromos, they could not go east through Somali lands nor go west as Lake Turkana blocked them- they had to go north, and guess who was there? The Maya. The Maya thus were embroiled in a long and contracted war against the Oromos, every single time the Oromos attacked they were slaughtered by their highly skilled poison archers, their attacks continued non-stop and they were about to give up on expansion until a certain Oromo told his kinsmen to don very thick hides [either rino, elephant, or hippo- sources differ- probably was all three]. With these hides the poison could not harm them and they pushed the Maya to their populated areas and due to their numbers and money being drained in the Futuh war they collapsed- Wej is now a Oromo possession.

After the Ethiopians heard about the fall of Wej province they sent scouts and confirmed the downfall of the Maya, the Emperor sent a army to re-capture Wej and thus the Oromo-Xabash conflicts were born.

Today the Maya no longer exist, being assimilated into the Borana Oromos.

Give me one source about them other than brief mentions in futuh
You won’t like me for saying this but…. Pankhurst (specifically his writings “The Ethiopian borderlands : essays in regional history from ancient times to the end of the 18th century”)

Not a popular figure in Somali circles due to his sources (Ethiopian imperial writings, local Xabashis) and his friends (the Ethiopian gov) having a anti-Somali slant but his work here is quite solid and nobody since has been giving such a through look into Ethiopian Imperial (and the conquered [Maya] Kingdom of Damot’s) primary sources.

Side note but I just checked out the Wiki page for the Maya and scrolled to the notable individuals section, apparently one of them by the name of Malik Ambar (his birth name was Chapu) went on to become the de-facto ruler of the Ahmednagar Sultanate (in central India). Wiiiild shit not going to lie.

Thats not true no one actually knowns Malik Ambar's ethnicity its just said that hes from Abyssinia in manuscripts

Ethiopian historians like to distort history, some of them say he was born in 1548 in Hararghe as an Oromo which makes no sense, the Maya were also mostly xasuqed during imam amhed's campaigns so its not likely at all he was from that small tribe, he was most likely Habesha or southern ethiopian

The local perception in the Deccan (the area the sultanate was based in) is that he was Maya- this is written down in a book a tourist company made back in the day using oral sources (Tourism Potential in Aurangabad).

More modern sources dispute that and say he was Oromo (as you mentioned), a more valid one says he was Kaambata and that either his slavemaster said he was Maya to get a higher price in Harar or he himself said he was Maya so that he could get accepted as a soldier.

Also they did not all perish in the Futuh War, for one the fact that post-war during province reorganization Wej wasn’t merged into a neighboring province which implies it still had enough people to form a full province. Secondly their people were able to sustain themselves during their wars with the Oromo for quite some time and didn’t just immediately run to the mountains- again implying that they still existed in considerable numbers. Thirdly during the Futuh war their people were not destroyed by Imam Ahmed’s army because they converted to Islam and started to help him out (some of them then went back to paganism after his defeat, the rest got forced-converted by Ethiopia, the true believers then got sold into slavery)

Whatever he was, it wasn't oromo anyways so it doesnt matter that much

Before the oromo migrations the awash river was always the border of the somali region. It was where the somalis bordered the ethio-semetic speakers and the highland east cushtic speakers.
