then an Oromo accuses him of faking his identity for political clout View attachment 375830
Our Hararghe fella then straight up says he is Somali by blood, Somali by language, and that his people marry other Somalis a lotTotal rejection of Oromo ethnic identity here (he even says Oromo identity is forced onto them)View attachment 375831
Then a Oromo says he should be deported to Galbeed lol.

They are legit product of assimilationOne thing I don’t understand is why Oromos spend their time copying Somalis/Amhara/tigray people. Like you’d think they would have their own distinct culture considering their numbers. Aren’t they the biggest group in Ethiopia yet they spend their time copying smaller tribes.
They were once a small group, when a tiny group assimilates a lather group into itself they tend to keep their original traits. One thing I don’t understand is why Oromos spend their time copying Somalis/Amhara/tigray people. Their whole existence is based on assimilation of other groups thats what they do, before expanding into the horn they were naked bushites in kenya wearing animal skinOne thing I don’t understand is why Oromos spend their time copying Somalis/Amhara/tigray people. If only Imam Ahmed (AUN) didn’t put a heavy strain on the legendary Maya poison archers during the Futuh wars, exhausting them of their finances and manpower. They were the tribe that constantly kept the Oromos in check- when they were defeated the Oromos had a free hand to expand- the rest is history!Their whole existence is based on assimilation of other groups thats what they do, before expanding into the horn they were naked bushites in kenya wearing animal skin
Lol what are you talking about we dont even know anything about these maya or where they lived, oromos lived far away around the tana with bantusIf only Imam Ahmed (AUN) didn’t put a heavy strain on the legendary Maya poison archers during the Futuh wars, exhausting them of their finances and manpower. We actually know quite alot about the Maya, their kingdom, their customs, their twist in fate after Ethiopian expansion, and their ultimate demise at Oromo hands.Lol what are you talking about we dont even know anything about these maya or where they lived, oromos lived far away around the tana with bantus
Give me one source about them other than brief mentions in futuhWe actually know quite alot about the Maya, their kingdom, their customs, their twist in fate after Ethiopian expansion, and their ultimate demise at Oromo hands.
You won’t like me for saying this but…. Pankhurst (specifically his writings “The Ethiopian borderlands : essays in regional history from ancient times to the end of the 18th century”)Give me one source about them other than brief mentions in futuh
Ill look into itYou won’t like me for saying this but…. Pankhurst (specifically his writings “The Ethiopian borderlands : essays in regional history from ancient times to the end of the 18th century”)
Not a popular figure in Somali circles due to his sources (Ethiopian imperial writings, local Xabashis) and his friends (the Ethiopian gov) having a anti-Somali slant but his work here is quite solid and nobody since has been giving such a through look into Ethiopian Imperial (and the conquered [Maya] Kingdom of Damot’s) primary sources.
Side note but I just checked out the Wiki page for the Maya and scrolled to the notable individuals section, apparently one of them by the name of Malik Ambar (his birth name was Chapu) went on to become the de-facto ruler of the Ahmednagar Sultanate (in central India). Wiiiild shit not going to lie.Ill look into it
Btw pankhurst has many good works that Ethiopians dont like, hes not that bad
Thats not true no one actually knowns Malik Ambar's ethnicity its just said that hes from Abyssinia in manuscriptsSide note but I just checked out the Wiki page for the Maya and scrolled to the notable individuals section, apparently one of them by the name of Malik Ambar (his birth name was Chapu) went on to become the de-facto ruler of the Ahmednagar Sultanate (in central India). The local perception in the Deccan (the area the sultanate was based in) is that he was Maya- this is written down in a book a tourist company made back in the day using oral sources (Tourism Potential in Aurangabad).Thats not true no one actually knowns Malik Ambar's ethnicity its just said that hes from Abyssinia in manuscripts
Ethiopian historians like to distort history, some of them say he was born in 1548 in Hararghe as an Oromo which makes no sense, the Maya were also mostly xasuqed during imam amhed's campaigns so its not likely at all he was from that small tribe, he was most likely Habesha like most indians adoons in india at that time
Whatever he was, it wasn't oromo anyways so it doesnt matter that muchThe local perception in the Deccan (the area the sultanate was based in) is that he was Maya- this is written down in a book a tourist company made back in the day using oral sources (Tourism Potential in Aurangabad).
More modern sources dispute that and say he was Oromo (as you mentioned), a more valid one says he was Kaambata and that either his slavemaster said he was Maya to get a higher price in Harar or he himself said he was Maya so that he could get accepted as a soldier.
