Basically people won't get to vote for the president, same old cycle they just did some sharaxad to make it look more democratic
The presidential candidate can still just bribe the MPs, so nothing changes, a political system run by money and not ambitions and promisesI don't think so because now the parlimentarians will be part of political parties and they will vote their party's presidential candidate so people are still able to vote for the president through the party they chose to vote for.
It's a better system but can't really be applied to situation Somalia is in where most of the territory is not secure. It narrows the franchise considerably to a few areas.
This is post screams of elect my tuug adeer because his shit smells better than the other dudes corrupt adeer..It is hurtful that there will be no 1m1v elections happening in 2026. Let’s give HSM another term unlike starting from square one. Farmaajo won’t bring change. Neither will DENI or Hassan Kheyre. In my opinion they’re all equally as bad. Let’s see what another 4 years of HSM will bring to the table. I hope the best for Somalia. All we need is stability and the rest will follow.
I think it can be done, his term ends in may of next year they have plenty of time, and after thinking about it I'm sure they didn't let the people do 1m1v for presidentials because HSM was up to somethingSo does this mean that before the 2026 elections, Mps will first be elected directly by the public, and then it will be those Mps who elect the President? I don’t see how this transition could realistically be done with the short time frame. It looks like HSM will be granted an extension.
It’s a good system. My main concern is how representative this will be, because a lot of the land is held by sh*baab. And who is the opposition in this context? Is Madoobe/Deni included? If they are, then this is good for now. Hopefully, in 2026 the entire parliament is cleared out from top to bottom and we see new faces. I also have hope in the general public, if you watch street interviews the people know their worth.I think it can be done, his term ends in may of next year they have plenty of time, and after thinking about it I'm sure they didn't let the people do 1m1v for presidentials because HSM was up to something
So 1m1v is pretty much useless now cause whoever gives the most bribes to MPs will be president, I'm certain this is the begining of the end for FGS but I'm still curious to see how their downfall is going to play out with whatever corrupt leader gets elected as president
It's not, its the system that made Somalia the most corrupt state on earth for the past decadesIt’s a good system
FGS has control over all the cities, Shabaab holds a lot of land but its mostly small tuulosMy main concern is how representative this will be, because a lot of the land is held by sh*baab
Madoobe most likely not but apparently they are having talks for the first time in a year, but Deni its highly possible, they could convince him to give FGS more control over PL in exchange for him running but I dont think it's likely to happen, he will definitely try to run thoIs Madoobe/Deni included? If they are, then this is good for now
That's not happening, usually when someone gets into Somali politics they do their best to stay as long as they can with connections etc, even possibly until they die, this is why you still have faces from TFG in the current FGS government, barely anything will changeHopefully, in 2026 the entire parliament is cleared out from top to bottom and we see new faces.
That video is sad, these people have been under gumeysi and a corrupt gaajo government since they were born, and they're seeing it getting worse and worse by the dayif you watch street interviews the people know their worth.
This only works because they have strong institutions and well established/stable political systemsThis is the norm in any European parliamentary democracy. Others have already said so, but it’s the parties that put forward their candidate for the highest office (President/Prime Minister). Starmer, for example, didn’t win a Prime Minister election. Labour became the largest party and put him forward for the Prime Minister role.
Party politics is at least some progress from tribal elections, provided these parties don’t regress into nothing more than clan-interest groups. At least power is no longer held by unelected old men, but by an elected class that can be called, emailed, or otherwise held accountable, and if they fail to serve, they can be contested in the next election.
It’s a chicken-and-egg type of situation. Institutions aren’t built first under some kind of enlightened dictatorship and then followed by democracy. Rather, institutions are often built and shaped during the early years of a nation struggling to figure itself out. Institutions are build under the tensions of differing competeting branches of government testing the limits of their power and influece, with the civilian populace approval or disapproval being what they need to win most of the time. This only works because they have strong institutions and well established/stable political systems
Same cannot be said about sub saharan africa so the comparison is dumb
The presidential candidate can still just bribe the MPs, so nothing changes, a political system run by money and not ambitions and promises
Idk if that would work, arent you describing how the first republic workedThe leader of whatever party that wins should automatically become the president so we can bypass the corruption of these MPs. Every party should have an already announced candidate before the elections and then you vote for your MP from whciver party. Largest party recieves presidency
These MPs cannot be trusted to vote for anything. No loyalty expect to the largest cheque.Idk if that would work, arent you describing how the first republic worked
