Not sure about London because it’s a quite unique city even Paris their neighbour look different to them but Dubai could’ve copied other Asian countries like Singapore, Seoul or Tokyo.

This dumbass Czeck thinks UAE residents want public transit. The UAE is hot as hell no one wants to have to walk and wait in the hot sun.

To be fair, the UAE is only unbearable or at least was so historically for about 3-4 months of the year. November to the end of April was until maybe this year very angelic. Cool or temperate, somewhat cloudy, rain from time to time (legit long storms when I was young), beautiful blue skies and just comfy. May, September and October were middling and June, July, August were simply hell and I'd advise you to just leave the country during those months if you can as many families do for vacations.

Old Dubai like Deira and Bur Dubai is a lot like much of Abu Dhabi; very walkable and paved. New Dubai is a collection of tourist attractions connected by highways. You either use taxis, busses and the metro which can be very exhausting and expensive or you have a car like me. They should have just kept building out old Dubai and interspersed in some skyscrapers and attractions from time to time:

A lot of sour grapes. But Dubai is not an efficient city. For instance the US is dismantling urban highways and pursuing public transportation. 12 lane highways is so 1950s.

I agree with him partially. Dubai took the worst infrastructure from USA and applied it badly.

The 8:00 minute mark where he talks about building a historically influenced Arab city would have been great. Imagine 100 billion dollars to combine modern building techniques and a historical arab city with all the great architecture.

The city also needs more greenery. Native plants and trees should be planted heavily. I know its a desert but they have the money for it.


All in all with hindsight Dubai could have done and should have done better. The bad american influence regarding architecture and city planning made it worse.

I think that a city that have been built well in the last 20 years is Baku, Azerbaijan they did a great job. Astana, Kazakhstan is probably the weirdest of all modern cities.
