Japan has an extremely influential cultural soft power. The formation of this perception that precedes reality has a history that goes into the mystique of misconception between the salient old social conservatism tied to samurai honor culture, the traditional culture with reverence to the environment with an appreciation for simple minimized natural aesthetics, and the high-performing human capital in the highly urban ordered center that produces advancement in science, technology, and research with the disciplined, structured labor market. The marvel of how characteristics, often viewed as dichotomous forces, embodied within a vibrant society coupled with over-romanticization draws humans to that country. People attribute unrealistic perfection to Japan they lack but wish to seek, drawn to its unique sophistication confined only within its inner world of isolated cultural impenetrable borders.

Reality is not that pretty. Japan pays a heavy price for the externalities caused by its over-rigidity.

When it comes to Japan I only care about Anime. I find people who are obsessed with everything they do creepy.

For me I don't care about their social issues, culture, history and whatnot or them as people. A bit harsh but whenever there is an earthquake there my first thought is I hope new episode of my favorite anime is not delyed because of it.

Is it Japan or all of East Asia? I think those incels would've reacted the same if it was in South Korea or Taiwan.

Taiwan and SK basically just copied Japan, and in the case of SK, Japan literally straight up built their country for them, so they don't get as much praise.

The Japanese transformation in the 19th century is arguably one of the wildest events in human history, no society ever transformed themselves so quickly. People subconsciously understand they're just built different and simp for them.

They went from Feudalism in the 1880s to building aircraft carriers in the 1920s entirely by themselves, and were the only non whites that could go toe to toe with the European powers. Even to this day, nobody actually understands how they managed to achieve that. China and Korea in comparison had African level poverty 50-60 years ago.
