Yall can say whatever about UAE but they have been the better allies out of the two arabs .when we had better ties with UAE and saudi they bought our citrus ,sesame , livestock ,fruits grains ect
Qatar gets 90% of its fruits from Indonesia/malaysia ,livestock from australia &Pakistan,
The only good thing we got fromnqatar is terrorism and access for our citrus , sesame to Turkish market . Our export revenue still exceeds turks and Qatar vs UAE alone

Shameful behaviour if true. That money was rightfully confiscated by the authorities. No state would allow a foreign country to wilfully ignore its laws and operate in the manner the UAE did.

I find it strange that the Emiratis would want the money back after all this time. In the original VOA article they said the money was meant for the FGS:

Al Hammadi told VOA Somali the money was not intended for the UAE embassy. “The money is for the ministry of defense. It’s for the salary of the Somali soldiers,” he told VOA.

Was that not true then? Is this a tacit admission the $9.6 million was going to be used for nefarious purposes? I guess we now know why they wanted to avoid having their bags searched.

Another security official said Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Othman Al Hammadi, UAE envoy to Mogadishu, was at the airport to receive the money.

The official said Al Hammadi’s entourage tried to take the money out of the airport but were instructed by security forces to have the bags scanned.

“The ambassador refused, walked back to the plane with three bags, and counterterrorism units confiscated the three bags,” said the officer who requested anonymity.

I cannot believe Somali hands unironically typed this post.

Being trading partners is not a license for other states to flagrantly smuggle millions of dollars of bribe money into your country.

The UAE exports over $1 billion into Somalia each year. They're not our trading partner out of charity but self-interest.

I'm glad badbaadiye rooble normalized stronger ties with Uae . Hopefully badbaadiye rooble stops any dirty money coming from Qatar . As a banadiri and lower shabelleh native this is a welcoming news will export more of our agriculture to UAE .

I mean a number of countries do operate in Somalia. Don't sell us the Imaratis are bad and Qataris are good kkkk. It won't work just like Kenya is enemy and ethiopia is walaal bullshit didn't work.

That’s what happens when you have a government focused on stopping corruption. If it were Hasan Sheikh or Sheikh Sharif in Farmaajo's position, that money would be gone by now.

This has nothing to do with the ex presidents . This money was illegally frozen by the mooryan FGS , badbaadiye rooble is bringing back the sharaf Somalia was lacking all these years .
CBB must understand you cant steall money meant for our army .

Could be. Or maybe it is gone, and this whole thing was to embarrass farmajo.

I'm conflicted. On the one hand as a reer Khaleej in the UAE I want Somali-Emirati relations to be strong as it benefits me life and business wise, but on the other hand these saxiibs crossed a line and have unscrupulous intentions toward our peninsula that should not be overlooked or rolled over for.
