Somalis exist on 1.3million Km2 out of 33million Km2 of Africa, that's 3 percent of the continent largest by ethnicity I believe but Somalis do what Somalis do best.....

Sub-Saharan Africa has the most fertile land on earth. Countries like Tanzania, Congo, Uganda have green landscape surrounded by rivers and lakes which puts them an advantage position for modern agriculture yet you always hear on the news poor children dying of malnourishment.

Can you explain to me what the Peace-Corp is? I feel like instead of financial Aid and Food Aid, which is largely detrimental, Africa could do with a lot of Engineers, doctor's and lawmakers from successful countries like the US to help build social infrastructure. Give a man a fish and all that.

The PC is composed of volunteers, chosen and prepared to undertake tasks chosen for them by host governments. It is funded by the US government, but takes an often independent line. In Somalia, the principle mission was to teach ESL, but it involved actually building schools and there was also a legal team that worked with the police and the national government, and a medical team that did (I think) polio vaccinations. We were only given 48 hours to get out of the country at the time of the Kacaan, but some volunteers are still in contact with friends or work with institutions like the Abarso school and Edna's hospital. Several will be official observers at the upcoming Somaliland elections.

If asked, the biggest issue with a PC return to Somalia would be security. Because of recognition issues, the request would probably have to come from the South.

The guy in the kofi is John Johnson. He worked with Musa Galaal. The two of them are responsible for most of the material in the Somali collection at Indiana State University.
