The Thoughts of a Tormented Soul.

Today, as I scrolled through my TikTok For You Page, I stumbled upon a Somali TikTok live. Regrettably, I briefly considered capturing what I saw for a sensational thread. However, I chose to prioritize my fear of Allah (SWT) and adhere to my boundaries. Let me get straight to the point: on this TikTok live, there were two Somali girls without hijabs, wearing skin-tight dresses, casually sitting there. In that moment, I couldn’t help but think that the Somali diaspora might be losing its way. I used to proudly assert that Somali women excelled in guarding their awrah among all others in the ummah. Now, with hundreds of TikToks seemingly contradicting that statement, I find it uncomfortable to express that with confidence.

Thousands is a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think? I still think Somalis are better than Arab and Asians in terms of modesty. We’re just easily identifiable and loud on social media unfortunately

Our situation in general is more severe than modesty, don’t you think? We have more pressing trials

Perhaps get off tiktok. If that's not to your liking then alter the content you consume so that less somali things are recommended.

The girl was wearing a Somali map-shape necklace. She was purposefully represented as Somali while wearing revealing clothes. These women don't care for our image.

Sorry to tell you bro but we already got a destroyed image. But yeah I get where you’re coming from. I myself find my self morphing into a hooyo. All of a sudden I started seeing jeans as ceeb and think skirts are the way. Depop is a saviour

There is no other time that Somali women covered themselves better than now in 2024.
Alhamdulillah, you’re right. Go back 30-40 years and Somali women were constantly uncovered, from the traditional dress in the more poor areas (which showed too much skin) to the women who copied western clothing in more fancy areas like Mogadishu.

Our generation is blessed when it comes to being protected from ignorance and most Somali women now know how to cover themselves. The abaya and the hijab have become the norm now for our sisters.
