The term "Black"

Did you guys know, that many other Africans don't want to be called black and only wants to associate with their nationality or tribe :patrice:

I thought this was only (some) Horners that has this mindset, but I recently saw a video of a famous youtuber from the McClure family, who stated that she only identifies as Nigerian and African- and not African American or black- and most Africans in the comment section agreed with her, saying the term "Black" stripes away their cultural identity.

I know this is a recycled topic, and I don't want to start a thread discussing whether or not Somalis are black.

I just thought it was interesting, and wanted to ask, if all the (fellow) Africans you guys know identify as black?

Cause the only Africans I know IRL are other Somalis.
I'm mainly asking the Americans on here

Black is a social construct that was made during slavery. You get all these people of different ethnicities, religions and cultures together and put them all under the term black. In america you'll have really dark skinned people and some who look white and they'll both just be classed black

The word black had nothing to do with somalis, shocking how some of us claim it and beg for acceptance from other africans and americans. We are african and somali.

Did you change your dp, or has it always been moving? :williamswtf:

Not American, but most of the young non-Horner Africans I know identify as black and are also huge Pan-Africanists, while the older ones place a much greater emphasis on ethnicity.

Anyone from Africa who is darker than a paper bag is black.

It's unscientific, but in the English-speaking world, this is the meaning.

And then on the opposite end of the spectrum, you have people like this:
The comments are pretty much anti-African

I dont care I'm east african and she's talking about west africa.
That's coz they did the most. The slaves of Zanzibar were not sold to the whites and then transported to America. We are still African to them so they will hate us because of that alone.

Some African Americans match with Kenyans and Tanzanians on 23andMe.

There were a tiny number of East African slaves sold to the US.

Malagasy (Borneo Indonesian) haplogroups are also found in AAs.

I dont think so. By that inference, Somalis will be the same as Nigerians? We dont identify as Black.
