Legitimacy is the word of the day, there is no legitimacy in these FMS, they assume they can force they their way into monopoly of ''Legitimate use of physical force''. Which is an oxymoron because legitimacy of Authority is what gives the state the right to use physical force. You have to have Legitimacy first then you can exercise physical force to uphold that legitimacy.Interesting viewpoints. I don’t think it’s an issue of governance, otherwise it would likely have been figured out by now. It’s something deeper than that I fear. You hinted at it yourself with the talk of establishment of these FMS and nomads/settled communities.
According to Weber there are three types of legitimate authority.
- Charismatic Authority(A very good leader that the people adore)
- Traditional Authority
- Legal-Rational Authority.
That is why further decentralization must take place in these states.
My argument in the previous post was that good governance is a form of legitimate authority one can't ignore, Weber would disagree. But the old man never saw Somalia in all of its glory.
