the reason why Shabaab/al-qaeda never attacks ethiopia

In Somalia the feds have no bite because they have no reach. They barely leave their compounds.

Imagine if just half of the 10,000+ soldiers in SNA were split up into groups of 20; with each group manning a 5 mile route. That covers 60,000 mile stretch. Pretty much all of Somalia.

We'd have all the ways to get in an out of settled areas blocked and even if AS sticks to the bushes they'll need supplies which nomads can't fully cover.

The feds also accurately track the economic activity in those regions and are able to generate more tax revenues. Just $1 per capita per month in taxes would cover the costs of the operation (2 cents per day per person).

With no AS around people would be able to earn more.

I agree. Without a strong government putting there foot down and a removal of foreign troops it won't be solved.

It's not about strength but the intelligent use of resources.

The number of soldiers we have today could block off all the transport corridors.

1% of that budget could be spent on a competent intelligence agency not controlled by SNA and we would have finished the job in 6 months.

We definitely have the right numbers but wrong leadership. If this improved I have no doubt that civilians would feel the confidence in taking an active role in combating this evil once and for all.

An independent intelligence agency would be brilliant but again needs the right mamul to lead the troops to success. Inshallah oneday.

Current contenders for the presidency are terrible :mjcry:

What's stopping this from happening, is it just corruption as usual or the lack of intelligence/plan from the government :farmajoyaab:

That's not the topic. If your adeer was so great then why did the biggest terror attack happen under his term ? Why did they capture more territories ? :camby:
Terrorist attacks intensified after our great president started cracking down on al Shabaab finances and purging al Shabaab sympathizers inside the government.:manny:

We could only speculate.

Status quo is in the interest of the current monopolies in Somalia (Telco's, largest importers and warlords).

Coincidentally they're also the biggest AS tax payers.

Maybe there's a sword above the heads of government officials and they know it so they pretend to do their job.

Conspiracy aside they don't attack Ethiopia mainly because they can't.

Military roadstops every 10 meters and the local government knows who comes in and out.

Anyone sheltering unregistered people get arrested.

If you seem suspicious in anyway there are millions of beggars who would line up to snitch on you just for a day's meal.

We could do all that in Somalia and use the same infrastructure to collect more tax revenue while making it safe for commerce.

On every street there needs to be a checkpoint and people need to flash their ID cards, Somali towns and cities also need permanent curfews until AlShaydan is stamped out.

Massive rewards for AlShaydan operatives and accomplices would also empower bounty hunters and before you know it, the entire country is running around trying to turn them in.

But Somalia is not serious about this, at all.
