Let me quickly break it down and compare to other countries.
In terms of migration to the UK other Africans came to Britain couple of decades earlier so had a head start to learning British customs, language and assimilated very well.
So then the Somalis arrived all at Heathrow and immediately assimilated with each other
and created their own micro community. Also, we actually “Assimilated” to British life but did not loose our language, culture or traditions; something 90% of other Ethnic migrants to the UK achieve within 2 weeks.
Not understanding our unusual behaviour and the lack of whitewashing and self hating we Somalis have achieved, we get attacked and clowned in all corners perpetrated only by the West Africans. Everyone else was cool with us. This came from utter Jealousy. Our girls are stunning even with a hijab and our boys are tall, lean and proud with hair to match.
The US Somalis on the other hand arrived post racial violence and tension between the African Americans and The European Colonisers. Because the country is so massive they got settled in cute migrant friendly towns even far away from other Black Americans.
Scandinavian Somalis on the hand, newly arrived at the same time as other Africans so with the same goal in mind, no tensions arose on that end and some of them became hip hop stars due to the even playing field.
So to sum it all up. UK Somalis are second only to culture, language and tradition retention to the Scandinavian Somalis (these guys arrived in 2010, you can’t beat them)
Bottom of the league we have UAE Somalis and Reer Henny (Canadian) who do not know a spec of Somali and have fabously forgotten their Somalinimo and assimilated or transformed to the local way of life.
