There was no ottomen in the najd Lakn there was ottomen in karbala and the hijaz and they were both invaded by followers of the dacwo of maxamed ibn cabdiwahaab in conjunction with reer sucuudiga and the edeb especially in karbala very edeb daran. Then the ottomans caught them and forced them to listen to music during their execution like @Shimbiris said which is also very edeb daran

I think both the approach of dacwo and conquest of sucuudiga as well as the islamic practices of the ottomans and they way they treated the executions of the beligerents are flawed in their own ways and in the end its war between two parties of daarul islaam. The net positive is reformation of islaam worldwide from shirk elements and other flawed practices of course but that doesnt automatically absolve everything sucuudi done to get there

I was having this conversation with a Saudi guy last year and not once did he mention anything religious. This mf was talking bout how the government funds his education and how he loves Liverpool fc and was even wearing a Liverpool fc scarf. He told me he met a few of the players.:drakelaugh:

@Thegoodshepherd they will shut up about shias being allowed to publicly beat themselves and having places of worship to do it for decades but get angry at sunnis for having domes. siyaasad weeye mixed with diin.

The Ottomans were somewhat in the Najd. More in a "client state" sort of way. The Rashid dynasty, for example, were pretty much Ottoman vassals and ruled a good chunk of Najd for a while:

But yeah, holding Najd the way one would hold the Hejaz, Yemen or the Arabian parts of the Levant and Iraq wasn't all that feasible or even, arguably, worth it.

That being said, the funny thing about the Ottoman-Sa3udi conflict is that it really was, to the MIAW folks, a purely religious issue. Islam has a beautiful cosmopolitan, not nationalist way of being and, the truth is, if they felt the Ottomans had turned around their practices and were behaving, in their view, more "correct" in their Islamic practices and keeping the peace along the pilgrimage travel routes-- they would have remained loyal to them and even turned on Ibn Saud's ancestor.

These guys, for all their faults, are pretty sincere about the whole "loyalty to the ruler" thing and you have to be fucking up pretty bad in their view for them to turn on you. I wouldn't be shocked if they would have ignored a lot of the debauchery in Istanbul if the Ottomans at least kept the pilgrimage travel routes safe, enacted more stringent rules on Islamic practice in the Hejaz and cut down on pilgrims being fleeced in Makah and Madinah then just showed the Arabian ulema some respect. Could very well have sent them the Sa3uds on a silver platter.

But, to be fair, a lot of these failings weren't really the Ottomans' intentional fault. They were declining. Sick man of Europe and all dat.

I agree. The Saudi gov sees itself as having the power to ban sufi practices because sufis are sunni. It does not regulate shia practice because they see them as another religion.

The shia sit atop most of the oil so you have to appease them a little or things will go south. You don't want IRGC intelligence blowing your shit up.

I think that Al Saud are evil but they did good in uniting that much territory. It could have been 10 little emirates but instead they have built a state that is large and has the potential to become quite strong. It would have been even better if Ibn Saud had taken over everything that is not Oman and Yemen. These little Sunni states have no right to exist.

Wahhabis are objectively the minority in Saudi, they would have been deposed looong ago if not for the fact that ASWJ in Hijaz are not rebellious and instead do constant negotiations with marginal results, maybe in 5-10yrs they would have realized the futility of it but the ASWJ in Syria were able to negotiate for massive concessions from the HTS/Salafi gov so they probably think they can do the same.

Shias are a smaller group, only occupying Bahrayn and lands the Sauds took from Yemen. But they are a real threat to the Sauds so they placate them alot.
