I agree huuuno. But honestly lying to self is a sort of healthy way to exist in this ruff world.

Yea sure dear, but if you have to lie make it the intellectual mental type avoid emotional lies
at all costs they are much more energy draining and they leave you off balance mostly

Agreed, you have to engage in honest self-assessment, which can be brutal - more so when you also tell yourself that you have no agency or say to influence your own destiny. You have to engage in positive self-affirmation (which can be mistaken for what you criticise in your OP) that you you absolutely can make a difference, ofc within the means endowed to you by Allah.
So in essence you need to have a twofold strategy: Be honest and analytical about your shortcomings, failures and deficiencies relevant to whatever your improving on, while also having a positive outlook that you will achieve the set goal based on your strengths, experience and determination.
Last but not least all of this should be cemented by your positive opinion of Ilaahey and his qadar.
