The newly appointed Somaliland Foreign Minister (Cabdirahmaan Daahir Aadan) has taken a strong and uncompromising stance on key diplomatic issues, signaling a decisive shift in the region’s political direction. Even before his appointment, he publicly rejected the contentious MoU with Ethiopia in a meeting with his community (Gadabursi) in America, denouncing any deal that could compromise land or autonomy. Since taking office, he has reaffirmed his position, vowing to bring closure to the MoU despite not yet receiving the official documents that are being withheld.
He compared the idea of gaining recognition from Ethiopia in exchange for land to “entering the hellfire,” emphasising the moral and political importance of perseverance and claims to self determination.
Furthermore, he has sacked the advisory board that served the former Foreign Minister and was involved in work on the MoU, signaling a clear break from past policies and a commitment to reshaping foreign engagements, particularly with Ethiopia, with integrity.
