Exactly. I have not seen it but I watched the trailer and it seemed to include themes such as a rapes and drugs. Even the school is modelled after your typical western high school and has nothing at all to do with Somalia.

You can already see the messaging. “Shatters taboos”, “challenge our culture”. Anyone with two brain cells knows films and music is how you introduce degeneracy into a society. Just look at how Hollywood has escalated its degeneracy throughout the years and compare it to a timeline of the moral collapse of the US and greater western society. All of those issues exist but we shouldn’t publicise it and desensitise people to it. Where I live in the west, the media aren’t allowed to talk about suicides so that it doesn’t inspire more people to do the same thing. It doesn’t prevent the authorities from combating suicides and people aren’t so desensitised to it.

Tbh, a lot of the themes shown in the film are very much things that are happening in Xamar and Hargeisa now and I highly doubt the idea behind it is to make it look acceptable or cool, however the sad reality is that showcasing it will lead to that. You’re normalizing and illustrating things that many back home from smaller towns might not have seen themselves. Also, we have a lot of issues of uneducated youth already copying trends on TikTok which has increased degeneracy. Another issue is that back home, a lot of parents don’t have the time to to fully monitor the media consumption of youngster and I fear that under 13s will see this. Hence, I can very much see why many would have issues with this show. It also begs the question, why is it that the first big production series is about drugs and violence? Why can’t we first start of with uplifting and inspiring series?

Having a read through the comments on this thread have been quite eye opening. I virtually know nothing about this series, I just saw the quality of the production & was amazed by it. But if they really are pushing themes like m*rder, r*pe & p*rn like some of yall are saying. How the hell are they getting the green light to release this? Growing up I used to browse gore sites & I have unfortunately become so desensitized to alot of violence. This affected me seriously. Having a show like this is gonna make whatever moral problems they r dealing with in somalia tenfold worse. I can’t believe they wasted such good resources on show like that.
