The Latin Script is superior to Osmanya

As a person who previously use to like scripts like Osmanya and Wadaad, I think Latin script is the most optimal script to be used and that Siad picked a good choice.
It would be nice to have our own script, but if you think hard and not let cultural pride blind you. You will realize that Latin Script is the best script for multiple reasons
- Common
- Easy to learn
- Easy to write on paper

Only problem with Latin is that its not fully optimized, we must introduce different characters Kinda like turkish you know what I mean.

Osmanya is really easy to use like Latin.

Wadaad is optimal for somalis who already used to Arabic script and is our historical writing.

Chinese is literally a new character for every word and the average Chinese has to memorise over 5,000 characters just to be functionally literate. And yet it's one of the most used at 1.5 Billion.

Stop glazing Latin so hard, who cares if its common? It's common cause euros bent niggas over. Turks switched from Ottoman Arabic script not for any functional reason but because Mustafa Kemal wanted to westernise Turkey. His implementation of Latin in the Turkish language is better sure, but it's still bs excuse.

Somalis should either use Wadaad - adapted Arabic which was our historical script used since the time of Aw-barkhadle.

Osmanya - recent but works well for Somali as its invented with Af-Maxa in mind although some alterations like new letters would have to be made to accommodate other dialects like Af-Maay.

Ge'ez - script used in Axum and since all regional-civilisations have a uniting script, the claim could be made all Horners should use the native Ge'ez script.

Latin script does not work well with Somali. There are different variations in the way people write Af Somali when using the Latin script, and because of that, there's no universally correct way to spell certain words. We adapted a language to a script that is not well-suited for Af Somali.

Latin in Somali is a human rights violation. Looks like gibberish. Especially with those long vowels.

"Soomaaali" kulaha what was Siad barre thinking. At least add accents like È for long vowels. Can't even write a full document I'm af somali without feeling like a clown Walahi. I want to translate books into af somali and write some of my own one day and tempted to just use the adapted Arabic script. It looks more civilised.

I heard the reason latin was chosen was because latin typewriters were cheaper to acquire. Now that thats not an issue anymore Wadaad makes the most sense.

Yeah that was the reason Siad barre used it. There was a few dozen type writers left behind by the italians and they were in Latin so to write government documents they just used those latin typewriters.

As you said, now we can use anything. Wadaad would be a better option than Latin. It's adapted for us and the adapted Arabic script has been in use by Somalis for a thousand years.

I understand the hate, I use to hate the Latin script too but seriously think about it. The global language now is English and along with it Theres the Latin script. The times to change the script are gone, especially to a new one like Osmanya which is similar to ge'ez however that script has been around for centuries.

Also I know Latin script has problems, we can adjust and add extra symbols and accents.

Only other viable script would be Wadaad, it uses the arabic script and although most somalis cant speak arabic fluently, I believe that 90% can read the arabic script because of Quran.

If I was on the commission choosing a new script, I would choose Wadaad (arabic) over anything, at that time the Somali Government had power, resources and time.

In my opinion, it dosent make sense to make a huge script change, especially to a newer script like Osmanya, which its self has many faults and needs optimization.

Wadaad would make sense with a competent government

Which script is better at ensuring that Somali words don't have more than 1 way it is spelled?
I think the reason for having multiple spellings is because Somali hasent had a lot of time to evolve on the latin script, I think we would have this issue with every language. There should be a standard, but even with a standard the language should be allowed to evolve on its own its something completely natural
