After 30 years not much has changed. Somaliland is de facto indipendent and still unrecognized
I'm pro somaliweyn but I feel like there is not much hope for a united somalia. I believe we should get our shit together in the next 10 years otherwise the last hope for a united somalia will be dead. The next 10 years will be the last chance for unionists to actually do something to bring back unity between somalis.
Reasons why somaliland joining back somalia is very unlikely
- somaliland never truly wanted unity with us
-somalilanders are still angry about Siad Barre and believe all somalis form somalia are responsible, this idea prevents any kind of unity or talks with them.
-it's almost to late, a 40 year old somalilander was only 11 when somaliland sepatated and never knew anything about Somalia. Two whole generation of landers were brought up with a strong anti somalia sentiment. The next ruling class of somaliland will be even more separatist. At least the old boomer lander politicians were all involved in the former somali government or at least lived in a united Somalia
Time is running up, we could have solved this issue a long time ago with serious talks with somaliland and a strong decision. It's either full recognition for somaliland or reunification. This limbo we are stuck in is harmful for both "somalians" and somalilanders.
