The history of Somalis in USA is overlooked and downplayed . Does any have any knowledge of Somali Americans during the early 1920s

Most ajnabis believe that Somalis only started coming to the USA recently as refugees. In actually, the first ethnic Somalis to arrive in the U.S. were sailors who came in the around 1920s from British Somaliland.
My ancestors came during a time where the Immigration Act of 1924 was passes, which limited the number of immigrants allowed into the United States yearly through nationality quotas. The law only allowed immigration from Northern and Western European countries. Just three countries, Great Britain, Ireland and Germany account for 70 percent of all available visas. Immigration from Southern, Central and Eastern Europe was limited. The Act completely excludes immigrants from Asia, aside from the Philippines, then an American colony.

They didn’t need NAACP, BLM, Bernie Sanders or Abraham Lincoln to help get the American dream. Not only that, both my Berber and Somali family had more than economic mobility and privileges than some ethnic whites.
That’s why I acknowledge my Somali heritage, even though I’m only a fourth generation.

which state did they live in and how were they treated?Hard to believe those racist fuckers knew the difference between african americans and somalis

I agree 100%, so much of Somali American history is overshadowed and whitewashed. You should have saw the expression on my face when i found out geeljires were apart of the confederacy, you don't ever see statues of them

According to my mum, my dad’s were treated differently from other minorities. Ethnic and poor whites such as Italians, Irish and Poles hated them . But the other blacks hated them, too. Ironically the upper class whites really, REALLY liked my grandpa and dad.
Even though Chicago very racially segregated, they never had issues going all over Chicago. The only places we avoided/still avoid are the westside, Joliet, and the projects like englewood

2. My dad’s family has very good connections with popo, loves to sue and good at law. They were very close with the cops and very friendly. My grandparents were allowed to have guns. They ended up having to kill a couple of maadows, but they get off with self defense. My grandpa got to an insanity plea deal after going school shooter at his job with the addition of the people he shot.
From my uncle on my maadow side’s anecdotes: He said “ The pro blacks in this city DESPISE Somalis because they’re evil imposters that enslaved the “real” blacks . When I say that some of them hate us, I mean in a “ They will instantly tell to beat you to death if they saw you” The truth is that my father/grandpa were pro black ,at first but he said that black activism is just a business and a cult. What really drove both my dad and grandpa from their cause was their refusal to completely assimilate into the black identity.

Both blacks and whites are some big ol’ haters. Those geelijires were probably helped white and black folks get along. They both overcame 400 years of racial equality by their shared fear and hate us. Lol 😂

do u have a picture of them? i find it hard to believe most white people treated them fairly and good i get if there were a couple good ones but majority treating them normal?????¿¿¿ come on, cadaan people don’t even have the ability to tell the difference between different blacks now. there is no way they did before ., how did ur dad n grandad think it was a cult/business when they were dealing with actual racism back than?

AAs don't have a history in America, what makes you think Somalis had a major impact in American History

The history started in 2016, with Ilhan Omar as Congresswoman. That pretty much it :ohno:
