Marriages that are no longer lasting, the concept of family that is completely breaking down.

The rate of depression and mental health disorders of all kinds is exploding.

The pace of work is becoming increasingly frenetic; in the vast majority of jobs today, we are asked to be as fast and productive as possible.

Inflation is ever-increasing.

Educational standards are plummeting year after year (see screens).

Authority is collapsing, whether it's the police, who can no longer command respect in their neighborhoods, or teachers, who are finding it increasingly difficult to command respect in their classrooms, etc.

People are becoming more and more individualistic, crazy, and zombified by social media, etc. Even parents are caught up in the TikTok loop.

People are moving further and further away from religion and morality. There's certainly a resurgence thanks to Muslims, but even they are becoming less and less pious over time.

How can our society continue at this pace? We're heading towards an increasingly absurd model; I don't even know how it's holding up.

Am I the only one who feels like we're slowly approaching a collapse, or at least a major change?

I don't think the current model will be sustainable in the coming decades, especially since it's getting worse every year.

I don't think the current model will be sustainable in the coming decades, especially since it's getting worse every year.

Yeah, a lot of things feel off, screen addiction, weaker families, rising mental health issues, but not everything is doomed. Every generation thinks the world’s collapsing. What’s different now is the speed of change and how unprepared we are for it.

But let’s be honest: some people are still building strong families, still chasing truth, still staying grounded. It’s not all decay. it’s also a test. Collapse? Maybe. But maybe it’s just a loud wakeup call. What matters is what we do about it.

Sounds to me like you’re speaking from your own experience, and if that’s true, I’d encourage you to start changing your ways.

You're absolutely right , if things continue at this pace, the world genuinely risks becoming a dystopian nightmare. Much of this decline is driven by hyper-capitalism and a consumer culture that prioritizes profit, speed, and distraction over well-being, community, and meaning.


The health crisis goes well beyond mental health too. We're seeing skyrocketing rates of chronic illness, lifestyle-related diseases, and developmental issues that were far less common even just 50 years ago. The growing obsession with health fads, gym culture, and online fitness influencers is really just a symptom of a deeper, systemic problem people trying to reclaim some control over their bodies in a system that is wrecking them.


Socially, the breakdown is undeniable. Face-to-face human interaction is being replaced by screen-based communication, and people are more digitally “connected” but emotionally and socially isolated than ever. It's no wonder anxiety, loneliness, and distrust are surging.


The erosion of traditional structures like family, community, and shared values whether religious or civic , leaves a vacuum that consumer culture and algorithm-driven media eagerly fill. But the result is instability, not fulfillment.

Unless there's a cultural reset , one that challenges the economic model, restores meaning, and re-prioritizes human connection , this trajectory doesn’t lead anywhere good.

Hasn't happened in the books, doubt GRRM would do littlefinger like how he was done in the show. Still its possible she manages to somehow out fox him but calling him a bum is crazy when he caused most of the realms destabilization.

I think those are just societal problems every generation has a problem with. However some points do make sense.

The biggest factor of a break down ive personally seen is climate change. It feels like the elites dont give a shit about this planet and it ultimately ties to your point of individualism. Every year it feels hotter and hotter. In major cities, the bystander effect is bad especially in London. You could literally be on the streets unconscious and everyone would just step over you. Social media was always bad but not as bad as it was in the early 2000s when everyone had flip phones. It started getting especially bad after the blackberry era. In classrooms, phones were a thing that only adults had or parents. Today you walk into an elementary/primary school you see little grade 2/year 3 children with iphone 16’s.

however, these issues are seen in developed countries such as the West. For example compare the life of a person living in Tanzania, Zanzibar and someone living in London or Paris. Its not a global issue and is limited by those with money. Even within a developed country, you see these issues within cities and not rural villages. Its a small fraction of the world but this small fraction controls majority of the world unfortunately.
