The founder of the Ottoman Empire

People don't like the Ottomans because:

i) They were the real power of Europe and routinely enslaved Europeans

ii) They karbaashed Arabs on the regular

iii) They had a nasty habit of having brothers fight to the death for power

iv) They fought with the Safavid Empire - the other Muslim superpower at the time

v) At the very end of their time, the Armenian Genocide (one could very well argue that this wasn't the same Empire founded by Othman and strengthened by Mehmet and Suleiman)

vi) They were the Empire that finally destroyed Rome (Spoiler: Trigger warning ahead)

All in all, the only people who don't like them are Arabs and Europeans. I'd be interested in anyone who is neither of those presenting a coherent argument explaining how the Ottomans were bad otherwise. Science and culture flourished. They brought much needed stability and prosperity to the world following the Mongols

i) they weren't the real power of Europe. They rivaled the Byzantines and made use of Europeans being highly divided among themselves, religious sects and language. Whereas the Ottomans all followed one creed, Sunni Islam and one language. Europe was crumbling already.

Read up on Skanderberg. A single man that protected Europe from the Ottomans all by himself. He was Muslim but converted to Christianity before karbashing the Ottomans.

The didn't 'routinely enslave' anyone. Europeans were Christian, people of the book, and instead of being slaves they were converted to Islam and/or used for menial work. The only European slaves they took were the few from the Barbary raids.

ii) True but the Arabs revolted in the end. Plus the Ototman control was an on and off thing, Arabs were never silent about their oppression.

iii) Nasty habit? LMAO they killed their baby brothers so that they would have no competition in power. So many babies were killed, u have to idea.

iv) True.

v) The Armenian genocide was committed by the Ottomans, no way of hiding it.

vi) No they didn't. You misunderstand. Constantinople was the capital of the EATERN Roman empire. Rome's full glory was already gone. The Ottomans never defeated Rome. lol

Constantinople was already sacked and raped by the Christian Catholics so that they could make their own Catholic kingdoms. Now u now how divided Christian Europeans were. The Catholics destoryed Constantinople by 1204, by the time the Ottomans came the city had no more riches and was already conquered.

TheVenetians defeated Rome, not Ottomans. :trumpsmirk:

You’re definitely a Christian Ethiopian

@astorecalledkmart forgot to add that Ottomans tried to inavde the kingdom of Medri Bahri (Eritrea) but got severely karbashed by mere peasants and got their goods stolen. The Ottomans tried to advance further but only managed to settle in Massawa after local Tigrinya tribes kept defeating them.

The only reason they even managed to settle in Massawa was because Ottomans used what they did in the Balkans, pit tribal leaders to fight each other and re-inforce tribalism. It still wasn't succesful and the campaign in Eritrea ended very shortly.

Funny thing is Medri Bahri played a role in the destruction of Adal and the death of Gurey. They knew terrain very well and gave maps and soldiers to aid the Ethiopians against Gurey.

Fun fact about Medri Bahri:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_conquest_of_Habesh

The Ottoman Empire conquered the Habesh (mostly covering the coastal line of present-day Eritrea) starting in 1557, when Özdemir Pasha took the port city of Massawa and the adjacent city of Arqiqo, even taking Debarwa, then capital of the local ruler Bahr negus Yeshaq (ruler of Midri Bahri). They administered this area as the province of Habesh.

:mjlol:
The Ottoman region was called Habesh Eyalet from what I read.
