The mental health crisis affects both sexes in the community and all generations. You can't do anything about it. Just focus on your friends and family. Let nature run its course and these people expire.

Why are you making sweeping claims about an entire generation of Somali men by using this guy?

I’ve seen some of his lives and he still his father in his life. I wonder what led him to become like that. I’m betting on substance abuse.

because walaal i dont think its a sweeping generalisation from the naked eye you can observe our community and you'd find both genders have issues with mental health maybe i could have said both genders and not only the men but boys are more vocal and make more noise, obviously the vast majority of somalis are normal but the environment we're in now isn't the best.

I think it's linked to growing global trend caused by drugs and social media usage. Not really exclusive to Somalis.

This from the UK , where i am guessing he is from.

The burden on the NHS has surged correspondingly. Between 2020/21 and 2022/23, mental health referrals for children and young people increased by over 50%, rising from 821,734 to 1,288,653. For individuals aged 10–24, mental health disorders now account for a staggering 45% of the overall disease burden, with suicide tragically the second leading cause of death.

There is two things common with Gen Z it's the rampant drug and social media usage that sets them apart from the older gen.

Long-term drug abuse can make people mentally ill.

Gen Z drug use outpaces all other age groups for factors such as prescription benzodiazepine misuse and cocaine use. Marijuana Use—Almost 13.3 million people aged 18 to 25 reported marijuana use in 2022. Among them, 8.8 million in the 21 to 25 age group reported past year use.

It's not a coincidence that all the mentally unwell are running on social media, doing and saying the most.

Social media causes more than 53% of Generation Z to be affected by mental health disorders, and 58% suffer from pressure and comparison with others. They also face difficulties in quitting social media, as 44% said it was quite difficult and 18% said it was very difficult.

I think all communities are suffering. But the main culprit is social media and a tendency towards being chronically online.

Addictive inclinations is something every individual has to overcome on an individual basis. Most would do well with structure, and genuine spiritual guidance/instruction.

The young have to focus on not developing skewed and warped views of reality. Things are not black and white, and sadly it seems like linear thinking and a severe lack of emotional intelligence is a common issue.

Next time you find yourself frustrated by life and how society is running. Take a deep breath and realize that the only person you change or control genuinely is yourself. Once you gain some clarity and self actualization perhaps you can help others in your proximity. It is a step by step process. But always remember to keep your head up and stay positive.

There is no huge epidemic. However, what is happening is drug usage is high among certain section of somali males and many of them unfortunately develop mental illness after years of substance abuse. Biggest culprit being weed, 2nd is khamro and 3rd is balloons.

Its sad to see guys you knew from early on turn into literal zombies due to weed and alcohol. Guys whose dads and brothers you know, went to same school with tvem and lived in the same area. I seen a bright guy turn into a shell of his former self because of drugs. Its just sad man.
