The curious case of Malta

AbdiGeedi

To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
Malta is a tiny island nation situated between Italian Sicily and Libya. It is an EU member state.

Libya is a major departure point for African migrants, many of them are Somalis, trying to get to Europe. The UE grew increasingly frustrated with the influx resulting in the bigger EU countries shifting the burden to smaller member states. France was recorded dumping African migrants to Italy. In turn Italy wants them be kept in Malta and repatriated back to Libya. The EU even resorted to bribing the Libyan militia to capture the migrants, thus, fueling the slave trade in Libya. Good old double-faced Europe always displays itself splendidly.

When France and Greece came up with a plan for the Naval operation Irini to stop Turkey's weapon shipment to Libya in support of the UN-recognized Libyan government, it needed the EU approval votes for funding.

Malta said "Wait a minute. Didn't you, guys, tried to use Malta as a dump for the migrants? And now want our help? Hold my beer, Frenchies!"

Malta vetoed funding for the operation and killed it.

Malta went further and visited Tripoli and Turkey to cooperate with on the Libyan issue with the side France wants to bring down so hard.

Now Turkey has the EU member states, Italy and Malta, working with it on a range of issue in the Mediterranean.

The moral of the story: Never piss off a little guy. He is hyper sensitive to his height issues and will come back with vengence.
