I've have noticed through observation diabetes seems to ail and affect people of Somali descent disproportionately. In my own family more than half of my siblings including me have type 1 diabetes and we are fearful that another one of us may be diagnosed in the future. Whenever I had to go to the nurses office to take insulin I would find at least 2+ Somalis in there to take their dosage as well. I have on multiple occasions have scoured the internet for this specific issue but can't find anything noteworthy. Do any of you Sspotters happen to know someone with diabetes, specifically type 1? I believe there should be a case study on this, it's really not natural or healthy and it's good issue to probe at.

Are you overweight by any chance? We don’t have anyone with diabetes in our family, my grandparents aren’t even yet diagnosed with diabetes 1. Maybe it depends on how family eat, for example in our family we don’t eat 3 times, we eat one time (heavy meal) , and the rest is just fruits, drink milk or eat bread. Also, historically speaking, our ancestors didn’t eat heavy agricultural products, so you need to take it into concentration, Somalis should train every day to stay healthy.
