So Oprah has been promoting her Purple Color movie- Broadway type. There is a fuss of glitter and promotion for it. Personally, i never knew what the movie or novel was about. In my head- i thought it was an uplifting story, about a fat overweight woman, abused by a husband named Mister, and in the end movie ends with the abuse victim character is united with her friend who had been in Africa for missionary! Before i delved into studying it, i thought i had it all figured out. I was so WRONG! So today i went to Wikipedia and read about the plot.
Walaahi i was disgusted and mortified. The plot is nothing more than a typical madhoow ghe.to life of abuse, molestation, envy- racism and etc etc -The story is told is disjointed, boring way.
The movie ends with the family of the friend who went to Africa- presumably west Africa- returning with tribal marks on their faces with a son who was marrying an African bride. All had their face sliced for tribal marks.
While white people write novels about running away from their natural self and embrace civilization-ala- progress- with an uplifting twist of change for the better- this African American author writes about degeneracy, debauchery. full of sadness and ridiculousness.
And Oprah thinks this is worth investing millions of her own money?
