Somalia was far from small arms back then. We were the best military in all East Africa by a long shot back in '77.

You can also flip that logic. Sure small arms and millitia can't capture and hold onto lots of land. But large militaries would find it almost impossible to occupy places chock full of armer millitia. It's not like 100 years ago when most millitia fought militaries with swords and calvary. The entire world is full of guns now. Every one in the third world can pick up an AK and fight. Look at Iraq where they had civilians smoking American tanks. And Afghanistan.

I mean look at dervish war against colonials. We built fortified cities and manufactured bullets ti fight for over 20 years.
