Why am I watching the most popular tv-show on Earth right now and one of the characters, who is supposed to be an old Somali uncle, starts talking about Siad Barre and the civil-war chimp out?

I cannot escape this country for just a minute.

I chose to believe he's Somali bantu. Honestly he's not a bad actor the only issue is that Somali wouldn't be working in some gaalo sandwich shop.

I'm more annoyed they don't utilize him more. I want to know about this character, what drives him to be where he is and what he's like outside the kitchen.

@Bazed, I agree he is a likable character, and there were many non-Somalis that once lived in the Somali capital, be it Cadaans, Asians or Madow, as prewar Mogadishu was a major cosmopolitan African capital, even today there are many teachers, hospitality staff and electricians from Kenya.

Ebra is not a Somali name.

No I meant I like to think the character is somali bantu. I know the actor is AA but that's probably because A) Hollywood doesn't care about the diversity of Africans and B) there aren't enough somalis in acting unfortunately.

True. I know that the casting was lazy but I meant that the character can be explained as Somali bantu or at least that's is how I rationalize it. It would be intriguing to see more Somalis in the acting industry though, so that we can have more actual Somali characters.

Did you catch the throwaway line where Carmy asks him what he's doing instead of working and he says that he's making suqaar out of the leftovers from the last shift? I had to rewind to see if I heard correctly wallahi
