Surah Al- Ikhlas: A Thread

General Asad

And What Is Not There Is Always More Than There.
  • A long long time ago during the early days in the city of Makkah, the majority of the people used to believe the idols as their God. They did know about the One and Only God, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
  • At that time, the family root was very important. People wanted to know who was their father, their grandfather and who was their great grandfather. So the idols also had children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  • Their beliefs were from their imagination. They used to make their idol gods using different materials. Some were made by gold, some made by silver, some made by iron and some even made by wood.
  • The material each god was made of determined how much respect they got from the idol worshippers. Suppose that there was an idol god made by gold that would have more respect than a god made by clean wood.
  • So when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started to invite the people to accept Allah as their only God, the people of Makkah were confused. They wanted to know about Allah. Who was Allah? Where is He? How is He even a God?
  • People wanted to know who He was. There were even some people who came from different place to know about Allah. Finally one day Allah sent Surah Al- Iklas, so others can learn a little bit more about the Almighty Allah.

In Surah Al- Iklas Allah declared that;

  • He is the One and only God and there is no other God. He doesn’t have any one but every creation that ever existed will always need Him. He was never born nd doesn’t have any father, mother or any children. And for us it is impossible to imagine how the Almighty Allah looks like

Benefits of the Surah;

  • Entering Paradise: Surah Ikhlas can become one of the major reasons for entering paradise. Therefore, a Muslim must try developing love for this Surah, which can be done in the form of memorizing it and then reciting it as frequently as possible. - Tirmidhi
  • One third of the Quran: “ Whoever recited Surah al Ikhlas would get a reward as if reading one third of the Quran.” - Tirmidhi
  • Protection: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “When you recite Surah Fatiha and Surah Ikhlas upon lying on your bed, you will be safeguarded and should become fearless of everything except death.” (Tafseer Mazhari)
And many others that I have not mentioned.
