I heard El Nino will continue until April, is this true?
It’s possible. But I think worst of the rain will be over end of year when our deyre rainy season ends

if El Niño continues past April into next rainy season might be worrisome. Just my best guess on what I’ve read so far

The current dam on the Juba has the capacity to hold 2.5 billion cubic meters, or ~45% of the annual runoff of the Juba. You can see the change in the reservoir from Jan of this year, when there was a drought, compared with today.

The Ethiopians want to build two other dams, Genale Dawa V and VI. Luckily their storage capacity is relatively small, only ~13% of Genale Dawa 3.

@Dalalos_ibn_Adali @Garaad Hirabu @cow @reer @TekNiKo the next two dams will be in Dheeka Suft woreda.

For more information: Tandem Reservoir Operation of Cascade Hydropower Plants Case of Genale - Dawa River Basin

The FGS needs to discuss with Ethiopia, they need to coordinate better on water release.

This is why FGS needs to build a dam in Beledweyne and Baardheere if the Ethiopians build another dam in Qalaafe or Mustaxiil it’s over they will control the juba and shabelle rivers.

It’s worrisome especially with the irrigation plans they have and water requirements. Water sharing and releases will be big issue if fgs don’t get ahead of this
