Isn’t it pretty obvious both communities have low exogamy rates because like 90% of them are staunch, conservative muslims lmao.
I’ve seen this study before and I think it’s outdated? It was on the immigrants that had arrived iirc. They weren’t going to be assimilating anytime soon anyway.
Gen z will definitely be marrying out at higher rates and the stats will reflect that. It is considerably less taboo for them except among a few. But I think we’ll still have decent endogamy rates, at least compared to other communities.

I wish there was a better breakdown on somalis but damn I’m glad we are on the other end. I rarely see arab-arab weddings here.
2014 isn’t that old, Somalis been here since the 80s. I’d like to see an updated one though I doubt there’s much change for us.

This study is based on the US though. I know they’ve been here since the 80s here and there but only in small numbers. The bulk of Somalis came during Clinton’s admin. They were not here that long for the stats to reflect how our westernized diaspora date/marry.
The only Somalis of marriageable age at the time of this study were the older immigrants and the millenials (some who were fobs themselves). You cannot tell me these demos would have the same rates as Gen Z. Come on now…

thats cap, those numbers are heavily exaggerated by people who has no real knowledge. Outside of mn Somali population isn't big even in places like colombus, seattle, the second and third "largest" somali population is still small they are only concentrated in certain areas. A lot of somalis outside if mn are moving to minnesota.

I always knew this growing up....even Minneapolis 2010, didn't have a somali population bigger then Toronto
the numbers are complete bogus we are a drop of an ocean as people. Even in minnesota somalis are mostly situated in the South namely cedar even in brooklyn Park and North of minneapolis there aren't many somalis there. So what I am saying is that is crazy how we are a very loud minority in the states when we don't really exist like that in America. By now the % of marrying out is much higher, its the same as every other group, wake up to living in a globalized world

Yep esp gen z. They don’t really care about keeping it “in the culture” people just marry who they love. This goes for all ethnicities bc I’ve seen people from the most conservative communities marrying out too (like Pakistanis). Their parents aren’t a huge fan at first, but they eventually get over it. We live in multicultural countries and a globalized world so it’s bound to happen
Toronto isn't really a global city the population is small compared to London and Paris.
