OPINION STOP Sending money to Somalia!

Although I fully understand where the OP is coming from. You have to remember money you send to a relative to survive is spread at the local level – feeding the economy.

Remittance is a vital source of income for poor countries. Overtime the goal is they eventually become self-sufficient.

Many of you or yall parents may be sending money home to relatives and family members monthly. I recommend that we STOP this practice ASAP. It does NOTHING to develop Somalia nor does it enrich the Somalis there. This only continues the cycle of poverty and What we are doing is rewarding uneconomical lifestyles.

I told my hooyo to stop sending money to adeer and we sent him a one off 7k instead and told him to start some sort of business/shop or learn English online and work in the online Gig economy. I explained that he needs to now work as he can’t be reliant on us any longer. I told him to be like the Syrian and Yemeni refugees that are overtaking yall and starting up shop.

I am pleased to say that he now works as a Painter! And has surpassed the figure we used to send him!

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED! Please spread the word to yall parents.

Not to mention u r making them an invalid dependent on u. The day the money stops, and believe it will due to lifes circumstance, they are screwed.

Alhamdulillah most of my family has left Somalia and is living in North America now. I don’t have any relatives or at least ones I know living in Somalia. I agree with the premise however, stop giving money to your relatives back home. They become dependent on you and leads them to become lazy. If you want to send money, send it to a hospital or a school or a charity foundation.

I just don't understand why Carpentry, Bricklayer, masonry, electrician, bricklaying, concrete finishing and tons of other jobs in just the construction sector isn't filled by ethnics.
All these skills can be learnt in a short vocational training or even on the job but ethnics think that's for Bangaladeshi, ethiopians or other Africans.

If they did those jobs they wud prolly better manage the remittances and know how to invest in a field they are familiar with but then who knows
