I read the article and it seems like a good idea. Somali children will be able to retain the Somali their parents has taught them before the school years. They will also learn the language properly. Very lucky maa shaa Allah

Why do Somalis have to rely on gaals in order to learn their native language? This is the parents responsibility

Somali private/charter schools already teach Somali, so why would public schools need that? Most Somali children go to the first.

Children often times learn it from their families but forget it gradually when they begin school. This is what I have seen in my experience. The article said they would be speaking (I’m assuming learning) in English and af-Soomaali during the school day. This is good for young kids to not lose the foundation they got from their early upbringing.

The article mentioned the benefits kids with dual language skills have over single language speaking peers. I feel that’s the main motivation.

I agree yes. Nothing wrong with learning their languag, an extra lingo. But i feel like they are putting extra work loads on the kids

I can see that. This is also the best time for them to learn it before they’re overburdened with other harder subject matters and life responsibilities. If they don’t make it seem like an extra hard activity, kids that young won’t be bothered.
