Watch out for those that spend more time calling out feminism than violence against women, gender discrimination and inequality.

Our nation has high rates of sexual-based violence, FGM, domestic violence, yet some people will convince us that feminism is more dangerous.

Why is it that feminism gets more airtime than these real issues in our community that literally kills our women?

These people are either easily fooled or agents of chaos designed to denigrate and divide our community.

I remember this one somali guy who told me there are zero rape cases in Somalia because we're a "100% Muslim country" ... imagine being so tone deaf and gullible. I know the west has made feminism in to a joke but Somalia is higly in need for some sort of feminism, I mean for f*ck sakes we literally cut 7 old girls vaginas in order for them to stay "pure" how more fucked up can it get?

They're not gonna shag ya, saxiib

Bro it ain’t about something as simplistic as that. There is currently a concerted attempt by outside influences (jaajuus) to divide our community.

They aim to suppress discussions about female mental health, sexual assault and other crimes against women.

We need to seriously ask ourselves this:

Do we think that if we provided women their Islamic rights, they wouldn’t resort to feminism?

I lived in Somalia, unlike yourself, so I can claim it whenever I want waryah.
Good for you, but many didn't so why should we only concern ourselves with somalia's social problems ?

@Periplus stop being a Male feminist h take it

Okay, let’s take your approach. Let’s widen it to a wider Islamic societal issue.

Most Central/South/Western Asian Muslim nations have worse problems when it comes to sexual assault, domestic violence and gender discrimination.

They make up the most of the Muslim population and most of the victims of these crimes.

Yet we give more airtime about feminism than these issues?

:hmm:

I think it’s important to separate between issues back home in Somalia and issues in the diaspora. FGM, sex based violence to Somali women isn’t happening in the west, the say way feminism isn’t an issue back home as both men and women are traditional.

But yeah there are some Spotters here who are hypocrites who have one standard for one gender and not the other which shows their lack of sincerity towards the betterment of our community.

InshaAllah I hope this forum becomes a place where genuine discussions and solutions can be brought up to better ourselves and our community rather than gender wars and just bantering all the time.

FGM has mainly died out in the diaspora but sexual assault, female mental health, discrimination etc still exists.

We cancelled a whole podcast that highlights these issues and provided a platform about depression in our community, over one episode.

But I do agree with you that we require faith-based, reasoned discussions in order to bridge a gap.

Google is your friend, go read a report or even go look at all the threads about these issues in our community.

I shouldn’t have to back up why 2 + 2 is 4.

Mental health is an issue that affects both men and women is generally something that is considered taboo. I somewhat lean to the older generation that many a times a mental health issue could be a spiritual issue with could be cured through worship and getting close to Allah. ( I have close relatives who’ve made improvements in their life by simply getting close to Allah, including myself and from what I’ve seen increase in spirituality improves the soul, mind and body)

I can’t comment too much on the podcast as I’ve not properly listened to it. I think when discussing these issues, there needs to be people well grounded in knowledge that can deal with these issues from an Islamic viewpoint giving faith based solutions.

I think Liberalism in general is something that affects both Muslim men and women. It is hypocritical to only talk about what women do wrong and not men.

I’m someone generally cringes when people bang on about feminism all the time personally I can only talk about it so much.

People turning away from their deen is the biggest issue we as community face, hell the reason we’re even in diaspora could be tied to our parents generations lack of practice of Islam and holding up rights ordained by Allah. (Lack of prayer, sincerity, arrogance, jealousy, Murder, shirk etc).

I think any attempt to better our community that doesn’t emphasise and take Islam guidelines into consideration for me is, personally pointless.

As men and women, we all have siblings and relatives of the opposite gender, Whom we love very much.

The issue here is not wether we care for one another’s well being, it’s how we go about it.

What has become clear to me as of late is this, I’m conservative and so are the men and women in my life.

Especially my female relatives, even my Somali neighbor who is a female with 3 daughters is a conservative women.

On the other hand many of you are liberals, which you have every right to be. So instead of forcing our ideas on each other, how about we find a way to coexist.
A common ground based on mutual respect and understanding.

to the liberal army i come in peace, and to my fellow conservatives brothers and sister, we are the last ones left. Who still hold firm to our old ways, and like those that came before us,we too shall pass. To make way for the secular order, that will tolerate nothing less than liberal values. Goodnight.

@Periplus idk why you still try, you’re talking to people who willingly don’t want to change, Somalis poor character is a reflection to our own country, a shit hole off a personality attracts a shit hole place and society to live in.

you’re trying to communicate with a general population that’s low-key retarded, a lot off them don’t even believe in basic knowledge, let alone to show respect to the opposite sex & gender.

they’ll soon enough realise the bitter truth when it’s too late!
