Not much new in that article that wasn't known like Abdillahi Yusuf arrest in 1986 and only released when Menguistu fell to the TPLF, who were housed and trained in Mogadishu.

Ethiopia and it's planned annexation of Galdogob and Balanbale was the final straw that ended the SSDF rebellion but what people don't know tensions were building up way before all that as Abdillahi Yusuf wanted a dual war front with SSDF and SNM, he also wanted a Post Siyad Barre Somalia settlement between rebel groups before removing siyad so a vacuum doesn't occur. But he saw they werent doing that and had different plans for SNM which we all found out later as fact anyways and a vacuum for Somalia.

I suspect it was Menguistu failing to do this is when Abdillahi saw the writing on the wall but annexing Balanbale and galdogob was the final straw, their were many preceding contentious issues unresolved.

He also thinks we don't know habasha are hanash(deadly snakes) even stated by ancient arabs proverbs, we know they like to play bait n switch shit while acting all friendly. They are masters of shirqool that culture and I think Abdullahi knew it.

What I found weird is the USA saying it will help Somalis this time which has never happened especially not against Ethiopia who has oldest form of Christianity and heaps of Israeli relics. America never and I mean never has or will support a Muslim country over a Christian one, this is quite set it stone. They always rescue Kenya and Ethiopia in their time of need while us in the 90s they just stood there and did nothing, that pretty much tells you alot and speaks volumes about their views.

The Rus people were neutral and backed both horses equally in the cold war era in Ethiopia and Somalia and we were outside Addis Ababa untill Russians, South Yemen, and Cuba had to save them from falling. If America even did that to equalise it not support one or the other like they do, the horn will be a balanced region, for every McDonald's you need a KFC for every Coca cola you need a Pepsi in my view. Throwing your eggs behind one side is one big gamble I think. The Rus were far more sensible in terms of their geopolitics here.
