The Hararis had their own city-state, their own royal family, a distinct language and a distinct culture. Yes, Harar had a large Somali population before Menelik’s conquest and subsequent purge, but a legitimate ethnicity that we know as the Hararis today had already formed by then. The real tragedy today is that they have no safe haven, no military counterweight, and no economic leverages to thwart the advances of larger ethnicities in the Horn, only their cultural distinction separates them from extinction. We as their historical partners should not entertain these theories that erases them as a people.

Agrobba, Harla, all of the Ethio Semetic groups are decendants of Amxhaar that moved south to escape persecution and famine. It's not a coincidence the FIRST time the kingdom of harla was mentioned was in the book of Habesh Emperor Amda Siyon.

Wouldn't that mean the Harla kingdom is the first Somali kingdom ever? It wasn't even Muslim which makes me suspicious.

There were no archaeologists in the Horn in 1814. You have only provided evidence that the Somali people were an integral part of Harar’s development and economic prosperity, but not shown any shred of proof that the Hararis didn’t exist as an ethnicity. Take this excerpt about the Harari language from 1855 for example, which is decades before Menelik’s conquest and the Battle of Chelenqo;
“Within the city a language is spoken quite different from the Somali and the Galla dialects; like the former, however, it is partly Semitic in grammar and etymology.”

The Harari people were clearly a legitimate distinct group, with their own language that could have only been formed over the span of centuries, yet they still remained closely related to us through faith, intermarriage and commerce.
