I have no problem with Islamic names but we need to ban the shortening of names like Abdirahman, Abdisalam etc.Many Somalis carry the last name Abdi and it’s mostly the older generation who have no understanding of the Arabic language. Abdi itself means my slave.

people with the name abdi should change it to abdillahi.

We need to re-educate our people. We need to encourage more Somali names but the names of Allah, the Sahaba or prophet Muhammad should be fine. A Somali family should have a mixture of both. Too much Abdis is becoming repetitive in our communities.

I think Somalis need to have Somali names at 80 or 90 percent and have islamic names at 10 percent.

giving your kids arab names and them given their kids arab names is legit one of the first steps to a culture dying this is what happened to many cultures across history. Moderation in all things I feel Somali culture is experiencing a massive crisis as we are a very emotion driven race so swaying them to abandon their beliefs depends on how you phrase it;

2. Will I be more Arab by doing that
3. Will I be better than so and so or will my clan be better

What do I care about Arabian scholars? These are the people like Ibn Taymiyyah who said Arabs are superior in lineage and decent. It is in the interest of many Arabians to use Islam as a tool to assimilate those under the cover of "Ummah" and "Salafi".

You will never see a non Arab wahhabi that is proud of their culture, all of them are try hard dhegace. Take Arab wives, say Arab phrases ect ect. That enough tells me this ideology is one of assimilation.

Your Dna says nothing about Omani daddy. One of my great grandparent was from Yemen do you see me claiming "ana arab". How degraded are you to claim an identity that even by your own made up story, are at least a millennium removed from Arabia.
