On a few occasions I noticed at DMVs and other service centers in American city I'm in that the guy or lady working the post speaks back to me in English even though I clearly see the person is Somali and has a Somali name tag. The worse ones are the DMV or government service center ones like the Somali older guy who kept talking back to me in English. I'm like "Wtf"? Didn't they hire the person because they know Somalis come to the service centers? So why is he speaking back to me in English when I clearly talked to him in Somali?

Another time a Somali lady at a Coffee shop here in US city I live in did same thing and talked back to me in English.

Wow, future generations won't probably be speaking Somali because of further generationing in America but the ones now do Speak Somali but they wanna talk in English in public service centers or jobs as if they don't like being Somali or something.

I see what you mean, but since they’re in America, they probably don’t want to be speaking to you in Somali as they don’t want to be deemed unprofessional. They’re working so they are going to speak English.
I think it’s a bit harsh to say they’re embarrassed of being Somali.
if you were an older/vulnerable Somali who can’t speak English, then that would be wrong. And even though you spoke in Somali first, you probably didn’t insist to carry on speaking Somali so they know you know English.

They're doing this at a public service center designed for Somali workers to help Somali non-english speakers and also Hmong to help hmong and so forth. So they're actually being unprofessional by not talking to me in Somali when I talk to them in supported language they were hired in part for lol. Get it? Coffeeshop one I totally understand but service center ones have no excuse not to talk to a customer who speaks Somali. How do they know I can't speak Somali? Next time they talk to me in English at government service center am calling manager to ask for Somali speaker and mentioned I can't speak English. I'll lie and say "Me need Somali talker" or something

Oh my bad, I didn’t know it was a service for Somali non-English speakers. If that’s the case, you are right.
