Somalis successful in Africa/Asia but unsuccessful in the west

Somalis are below the median US income, and Yemenis are above it. They achieved this in a shorter amount of time, but we still make excuses that we are new, we need time to settle, it has only been X amount of years. It is all cope
Did Yemenis come to the US as refugees though? I agree with your overall point but I think the majority of Yemenis in the US immigrated the normal way
You seem to have failed to grasp the intent of 'most educated'; let me explain: Syria has more qualified doctors and engineers than the entire Gulf States. More importantly, of the 21 Arab nations, Syria has more doctors and engineering, excluding Egypt and Sudan. Are you getting the gist of it?
I agree. Yemenis are very similar to us in the sense that many arenβt that educated but theyβre more business savvy and arenβt work shy. Thatβs the key.
Also, the idea that most Somalis that migrated were from the Meey (Baadiyo) is false. Most were in fact residing in the city before fleeing and actually had a bit of money. The poorest of the poor were the ones that struggled to leave Somalia since it requires money to travel.
Also, you have Somali communities on Cardiff and Sheffield who are verging on living in the country for nearly 50 years due to the influx of sea men who later on brought their families, hence you do have Somalis living in the UK since the 60s and many bought their families over in the 70s and 80s.

Yemenis are amongst the hardest working people on earth. Culturally these people are advanced. Allah mentions their kingdom Saba in the Quran as one of the greatest civilisations. They had their own writing system even before the Greeks.

I disagree. China can go through civil war right now and turn into a 3rd world country overnight only for it to bounce back up real quick and turn into a global superpower it always was. Culture is extremely important. It lays the foundation for a said ethnic group to prosper at any given time. Your average Somali back home canβt read. There is a reason why they paint the walls of the shop with images they sell inside. Besides I donβt really see any difference between Yemenis and Somalis in the west. Where is this success?
Yemen isnβt China and their glory days were in the Ancient times. Itβs like saying Ethiopians in the diaspora have a penchant of success because of the ancient civilization of the Abyssinians when their impressive history hasnβt helped them as well. They too have a writing system yet when in the West theyβre not that different to Somalis.
Yemenis In the states and in the Gulf own a lot of big businesses. Theyβre killing it businesses wise and are a lot more hardworking.
Also, to add your average Yemeni back home also canβt read but thatβs not here or there since the vast majority of Somalis that were fleeing the war could indeed read, they were the top 10% and were children with free education under Barre Kacaan era. Hence letβs not come up with irrelevant points.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph. Only as recent as 1955 the port of Aden was the the second busiest in the world after New York. You will find well established Hadhrami communities as far as Indonesia and East Timor producing high ranking ministers and politicians all across the Indian Ocean from the Swahili coast to India, Singapore and beyond. Yemeni culture is based on buying and selling. Exotic products from as far as south east Asia used to anrrive on their shores only for caravans to transport it to the levant and sell it to the Mediterranean world. They even found remnants of old Sabean script on a Greek island. They continued with this tradition of being business oriented till this day simply because itβs their βcultureβ.
Btw, Ethiopians, Somalis and Yemenis in the west are the same in terms of success. I live in London and have the privilege to see various different communities first hand.

All in all, it seems like a defeatist mentality in which one is devoid of accountability. Somalis are very successful in many countries outside of the West and many multimillionaires exist amoung us but the welfare and easy mode mentality has ruined many of us.
If you could elaborate: what is defeatist mentality?
Somalis are doing very well in the US in business, skilled as well as unskilled.
I work, and trade with some of them. And many are of Yemeni origin just like the bin Ladens, for there is a whole region in Saudia, which is populated by Yemenis (Yemeni actually claim anything south of Jeddah as theirs).

I would say the American Somalis although having a bad reputation (jts normal since with lots of success comes with lots of negativity) they are the most successful in the west after watching a video about it, it makes me happy for them and their grind the Minnesotan Somalis put into their communities, and I want to go on a vacation there someday.

Excuses. How do you explain South Americans, South East Asians and Balkan etc people who left their poverty and war riddened shithole in the mid-late 20th century and thrived in the West despite having little to no education and poor English proficiency?
The answer is very obvious. They did jobs that the first generation Somalis look down on. They started on the bottom doing manual labor and now are successful due to this reason.
The only justifiable excuse would be others settled when cost of living were cheap and affordable.

Not only that, this is one of 3 community development projects in Minnesota for whole neighbourhoods owned and resided by Somali community. The first one is for 600 residential homes with community centres, mosques, playgrounds, businesses etc.
