We? Us? Like all Somalis hail from one background? Certain tribes are from Arab origin some are not, you can’t decide for a person what he is or where he is from, abtirsi does that.

Thats if your addressing Somalis, if your addressing Somalia as a nation you will never get rid of Arab influence because of the geographical location of Somalia. I think Somalis will always embrace the Arabic language because that's the original form the Quran was revealed in. Somalis will always have an interest in learning the language for this reason.

But I don't think we should claim to be Arabs because we are not. Even in the hypothetical sense of the founder of Qabil X being an Arab he would have married a Somali woman and over the millenia his DNA greatly reduced.

Arabs don't claim Somali heritage and by doing so it makes us look like beggars with no history.
