Somalis not bearing ethnic Somali names

This is a new trend and i can tell when i read off my abtiris. The farther i go back the more somali names there are.my grandparents generation had somali names. I think our parents (genx) are the ones to go more arabic. Before anyone comes and says tht we always had arabic names. Im talking about the majority of somali names werent arabic but somali the farther u go back. You should give ur kids somali names so tht it wont get lost.

Is there a way we can adopt somali surname back home? I know it sounds weird but it's important to safeguard our traditional names and it also helps to distinguish us from others e.g oromos.

That cant be possible no way. 20 generations is 500 years ago at that point in time somali names were more common to have. Also all the clan founders and their kids have somali names and thats around 25-32 generations ago. Are you banadiri perhaps?
20 generations is like 300-350 years ago 17th century , the average age of marriage back then was less than 20 years old

What’s wrong with Muslim people having Muslim names?

My first and last name’s Islamic and I love them.

I don’t agree with the trend of Somalis using Arab names with no link to Islam. But nothing wrong with Muslim names.

Even these names like ali and fatima were regular arabic names before islam. Somali names doesnt equal non muslim.

At least they still have an Arabic or Muslim sounding name. Spare a thought for those of us who have surnames and names that are super Eastern European for some reason πŸ₯²πŸ₯²πŸ₯²πŸ₯²

Explain to me why are Somalis on here so anti Somali name and culture on here and no i have no respect for Somalis who do not bare a Somali name.
You got to be trolling it ain't never that deep. Giving your kid for example a name of one of the Prophets is not shameful.

Also Somalis can name their kids what they want as long as the child's name has a good meaning and isn't smth crazy like fircawn or specific to any other disbeliever. If nobody's picking good cultural names then you can only look at urselves for being uncreative.

Like do you remember the picture of the guy called Mohammed Mohammed MohammedπŸ˜‚. Only a somali parent would be able to cook up a name so beautiful.

I'm not trolling and as having ethnic name is part of your identity. If your name was Mohamed Gamadiid Joogle i would know instantly you are Somali.

I truly look down upon Somalis who do not have a first, middle, or last name of Somali origin since I am a proud Somali with a Somali surname.
since having a Somali name is a component of who you are. For instance, you would have no idea what nation or ethnicity this would belong to if your name was Ahmed Ahmed. As you are aware, the person is Muslim, but if his name were Ahmed Sahardiid, you would know that he is Somali. If you look at any African ethnic group on continent you would notice indeed majority of them would bear ethnic surnames unlike us Somali folk.
U must be so damn jobless my guy

It could always be worse, could be like East Asian in the west where where they have western first names like "Jake wang" or "Kyle Su" etc

Imagine a "Kevin Aidid" subx :ohlord: better job opportunities but at what cost
