Somalis needs to stop judging people’s business

I don’t think FGM is very smart to bring up outside of Africa, this is a hill im willing to die on. None of these ”activists” will ever do the kind of work that is required to end this practise, in fact they will most likely never go back home.

the only outcome is more stereotyping and attaching diaspora somalis to a practise that is largely alien to them

If Somalia still practice FGM in this day and age what’s wrong with not bringing it up? It’s not like is an urban myth. If we’re that offended from it this should’ve been prevented long ago. Ceeb culture is what I’m getting from this saxib. FGM needs to be eliminated. I do agree she should speak this in Somali but I doubt the folks from our community would care anyways. It’s been decades and still going.

🤷

I know you guys going to attack me for this and probably qashin my post but: she has every rights to talk about FGM in English. It’s good to educate people outside from our community in order for our own to learn from people’s view about us and just so we can do better. If you want her to say it in Somali because “it’s ceeb” then why haven’t Somali prevented this? It’s been decades. And we’re still doing this. 🤷

Who’s we? Is it diaspora somalis who are responsible for that practise lol? Is it their fault that the state collapsed and the country descended into chaos making it impossible to properly end the practise? Alot of you make no sense when u say this, whenever diaspora somalis express discomfort about this topic being brought up in unnecessary spaces u start harping about how if ppl are ashamed at the mere mention of fgm then they should stop, WHOS THEY

Does she present herself as an individual online? I find this take rather interesting especially coming from people who overly identify with their ethnicity online. She made a storytime as a *somali* person. She presents herself as a spokesperson for somali people, she regularly uses somali hashtags etc. she goes out of her way to attract attention from that community

and she recieves criticisms from somalis on that basis.
If so why is she shocked at hate coming from the community? I feel empathy for her miskeen but she must've seen this coming marketing her acc towards somalis

Can you blame them though? It’s very traumatic and undoubtedly a big part of their identity, if they are venting online let them. I agree about the other crash outs who use social media as their personal diary and always complain about the community.

That girl has been through so much and has every right to express herself online. Shes never spoken badly about her people or generalised them so why all the hate?

Tribal mentality. :kanyeshrug: Somalis copy each other. And quack like ducks. Sometimes they follow the crowds. I believe is sometimes better to not claim Somali online for the better to not be judged by your own. Even Chunks gets attacked relentlessly on social media by his own community.

Go take a look at how North Africans/Arabs and Desi’s behave, they are much worse online to their own and do honour killings.

Desi’s and south Asians are way worse. No doubt. They have cultural issues. In comparison to this is nothing to compare about. No doubt. But still Somalis are extremely judgmental. I’d take our judgmental side than the south Asians communities though. :whew:

Claiming Somali is what gets a lot of these people clout. Chunkz was supported by the Somali community in his early days. He doesn’t really get anything bordering hate apart from troll comments. Somalis even push the likes of ramla Ali and maya Jama who have both admitted to not claiming Somali heritage in the past.

you can’t put Chunkz in the same category as Somali feminists/activists who are seen as pandering to western audiences by bringing forth sensitive topics in English and using Somali name to go viral. Somalis are suspicious of these types because of people like ayan ali Hersi. I don’t agree with the hate comments though.

If you put shit out to public, I am going to judge. I judge almost everything I come across. Tf do people expect me to do, wonder around like a cow with not a single opinion about the things I observe?
